If rebar was used we should see some twisted ends sticking out of the debris. But photos have not been focused in enough out of respect, while people are still being recovered. Their bodies anyways.
They spent $11 million on that bridge?
I could have build them a wooden one that would have lasted for hundreds of years for a million.
Here’s a video about the bridge construction by Juan Browne, who is pretty sharp about things engineering. He did a great series on the Oroville Dam spillway failure last year.
In short, the bridge was NOT to be a true suspension bridge as I had thought. The suspension pieces aren’t even cables but are pipes with little support role. They serve more to dampen vibrations and movement from pedestrian traffic.
