FULL TITLE: Walmart security guard shoots 'shoplifting' mother dead in parking lot as she tries to escape with two young children
A 27-year-old mother of two has been fatally shot by an off-duty sheriff's deputy after he suspected her of shoplifting at a Houston Walmart.
Harris County Sheriff's deputies have said that victim Shelly Frey, Tisa Andrews and Yolanda Craig were stealing when they were confronted by Louis Campbell a 26-year veteran of the force who works as a security guard at the store.
According to Campbell the women ran to their car and when he rushed to open the door, they accelerated away - at which point he fired the deadly shot into the car which hit Frey in the neck.

Security at the store on the 14000 block of the North Freeway had noticed the three women 'stuffing items inside their purses' and notified Campbell, who was working an extra job that evening.
Investigators with Harris County said the three women even attempted to pay for some small items to act as a cover for the shoplifted ones.

At first I thought the kids were either human shields or "take your children to work day".
Just a bad babysitter.
The Guard/Officers life is toast now either way. By the time the lawsuits are finished...
Feel for him.

It is never to smart to try to run over a uniform telling you to stop, particularly with a court order against you to even go to a Wal-Mart.
Guess she won’t be shoplifting again.

This crowd does seem rather rough around the edges and in the middle.
Katrina transplant.
He said that his daughter had moved to Houston after Hurricane Katrina to start a new life,
Getting shot for shoplifting is a bit over the top, but he may well have feared getting run over. And it looks kind of like she was a professional shoplifter—a gift to Houston from Hurricane Katrina.
I must say, she is really creepy looking in all that purple.
Too many action movies.
It does get old having cops go into 'cop' mode while being paid by a private company. Did he magically turn into a 'cop' once the theft began? Is the city now responsible for said cops actions?
She is creepy without the purple. She is just a creepy girl!!

Perfect mom, aside from all that stealing.
Kind of odd that an officer with 26 years experience would be involved in this kind of incident. He must have felt threatened in some way. But, yeah, life as he knew it is over. And Walmart is going to be sued big time as well.
You play you pay.
Too bad too sad. Its a an occupational hazard of thievery.
Unless his or someone elses life was in danger, this guy did a stupid thing, sorry. Don’t get me wrong, she was wrong for stealing, but to put everyone else in the parking lot at risk for just some stolen cr*p? I hope to hear that there was some good reason for the shooting.
Yeah, there was a thread on this earlier. I still think of it as the “feel-good” story of the day. Career-criminal trash gets taken out, right in the commission of their crime. Beautiful. And a great message to any others who wish to come here to Texas and bring their festering, degenerate criminality with them.
How big a story it becomes probably depends on whether the cop was white or not. If he was white, expect the usual suspects to come and whip up emotions. If he was African-American, it will just be a local story.
It's too bad that someone died, but at least it wasn't the cop (assuming the facts as presented are reasonably accurate).
