There are plenty of other breeds that do the same thing without going postal on neighborhood kids.
As I said, the owner should be held responsible for the dogs actions but wanting to ban the dog is a liberal response.
“the owner should be held responsible”
If this happened to one of my kids, the owners of these dogs would be dead. I would try to hang them but would shoot them if I had to.
And as I have already pointed out before (twice!), I am not calling for banning. However, by your lights, anyone should also be allowed to own a cougar, or a bear. After all, its the owner’s responsibility, right? So, you wouldn’t mind if your neighbor brought home a pack of coyotes, or started farming Siafu ants, right? Even if they wind up killing or crippling one of your family members, it’ll be their responsibility, which I’m sure will be so comforting to you afterwards.
Remember, Conservatism, and even Libertarianism, is about *small* government, not *no* government, and about sensible, not arbitrary, regulation. There are still perfectly legitimate reasons for putting some regulation on the public’s behavior. And, the pit bull breed seems to be demonstrating that some regulation might just be in order.
Of your list, only pit bulls are known to kill innocents without any action on the part of their owner or the innocent victim.
I’ve been reading FR for some time now but never replied. This news article is interesting so I’ll reply.I know a little about pit bull reactions.I used to audience quite a few dog fights because i liked ‘em...just as I liked a chicken fight.Pit bulls are nomally make good pets.First...Pbulls are not trained to fight, they are bred to fight. To make the dog more game, dogfighters line breed their dogs and exercise them for stamina just like chicken fighters do.A linebred dog tends to be less intelligent, more agressive, blindly fight to the end type of fighter than a domestic raised bulldog. Then there are Rockweillers that have been know to attack a person and kill..usually in pairs.Just as these two were in pair. They could have been cow dogs, fighting dogs out of the pen, wolf dogs, etc. who knows?Normally pit bulls are good family dogs but they need attention and love and someone to tell ,em what to do & what not to do just like all other dogs.Or they get into trouble like dragging things off the the clothes line.
I have turned this issue of regulation over in my mind for awhile, and I’m just not sure it would work. Although I think that it would benefit the public and the breed to make people take some kind of class and meet some basic standards before getting a pitbull, I see two major problems.
First of all, the people that contribute to the problem are not likely to register their pitbulls.
Second, how could you possibly define what a pitbull is? Except for the registered ABDA dogs, which are a very tiny minority, ‘pi bull’ is in the eye of the beholder. My dog is a pit bull mix, but very few people would recognize him as such. The wording would have to be something like this:
“Any dog from 30-140 pounds, any height, with a smooth coat, muscular to obese, any color, any pattern, with drop or erect ears, a short to medium muzzle, a thick or whiplike tail set low or high on the back...” etc, etc, etc.
That could be any dog.
And if you use the ADBA standard, then you’re targeting the people who know enough about their dogs to make sure they’re registered & shown.
The problem as I see it is not the breed, or even the dog fighters, but the people who think pit bulls are just like any other dog. They don’t consider the dangers of owning them, so they see no need for special precautions.
Ha ha, a ‘pi bull’. A dog to the power of 3.14159265...
That's too bad. They could have put the dogs in a kennel with the owners for a few months (with no food) just to see who would get eaten. Then shoot whichever is left.
I was mauled by a German Shepherd when I was 10. It was very bad, and I spent three months in the hospital. I had nightmares for many years, and I was scared anytime I saw any dog. Even our own family dog scared me. LOL I mean I would shake and become paralyzed with fear. That fear caused other dogs, over the years, to attack me, as well. I’ve killed two dogs, that came at me, with my hands out of fear. And I love dogs passionately.
I’m not petrified anymore, some 45 years later, but I do tense up when a strange dog comes up on me.
I will Pray for this little guy, I know what he has yet to go through.
And so they shall remain, until they are not well behaved which seems increasingly the case with this breed. Be aware because the next "kiss" from one of these animals may wind up costing you half of your face.
The person who posted that video on YouTube said the boy died on May 18 (just two days ago) at 4PM local time, 3PM ET.
Yet, this tribute video was made and added to YouTube on the same day (also May 18).
So this video had to have been put together and uploaded to YouTube less than nine hours after the boy died.
Certainly possible, but done very quickly.
WTF????? Do the owners of the freakin' killing machines have any children? If so, are the CPO nazis investigating them? FCOL!!!!!
My next door neighbor has "the sweetest pitbull in the world," which has already bitten tow people without any provocation. My kids aren't allowed outside if the dog is in her yard. She absolutely cannot be trusted.
Give the dogs a nice big meal, then wait and see where they head home to. The real criminals live there.
i created this account specifically to use it one time just to tell you and everyone else like you that you are all way misinformed. as an owner of a pitbull i can tell you that he is nothing short of wonderful. he is around children all the time and i should note that the golden lab across the street from me bit my nephews cheek almost completely off but you wont hear about that in any newspaper b/c its not an interesting story since the pit bull was not involved. ALL dogs need to be trained by loving, responsible people and instead of banning a breed maybe there should be a tougher screening process on who gets these dogs, stricter laws on puppy mills, etc. that is all, you can go back to your redneck way of thinking. oh and also those vicious micheal vick dogs..many of them have been adopted and are now loving, wonderful pets.
You are right, you are an idiot-just go away.
