"The 22nd Congressional District of Texas is thriving, with a growing population and a flourishing economy. The district includes the majority of Fort Bend County, including most of the cities of Sugar Land, Missouri City, Rosenberg, Needville, and the county seat of Richmond, as well as the county’s share of the largely unincorporated Greater Katy area west of Houston. In addition, the district also contains portions of northern Brazoria County, including Pearland and Alvin, Wharton County, and Matagorda County, as well as a small portion of southeast Harris County centered on Friendswood."

Six years sounds about right. Good on him for walking away.

Never-Trumpers and RINOs are stepping down so Democrats can take over and impeach Trump (again) in 2027.

Indeed. And he did it in a way that didn’t leave a Republican seat vacant.

Why is it always Republicans who quit? Democrats will stay in til they’re nursing home material, but Republicans will leave when we can’t afford to lose any.

*Despite* including “the majority of Fort Bend County” this district is R+9 or R+10, whether the new map is used or Democrats force the old map to be used.

Should be safe for whichever (R) emerges from the primary.

Some people get palpitations (and flashbacks to 2018) whenever a House Republican decides to hang it up, but that wasn’t the main reason for what happened in 2018 and it won’t be the main reason in 2026 if similar results occur.

If that was truly his motivation this was the wrong district to do this from since it is at least +R9

To be fair, the 22nd District even going back to the days of Tom DeLay always contained the good part of Fort Bend County, and it still does.

The parts which are not in CD-22 are pretty damn bad in a political sense, though some neighborhoods may look quite nice.

If it perceived that a political party is going to lose big in the next election it is often accompanied by a wave of retirement announcements by said party members. Unfortunately, I suspect that is what is happening here.

Exactly. As Trump called MTG, “Traitors”.

Or the wusses retiring are causing Republicans to lose. Their country thanks them. Not.

Sounds like a bright red district. As long as Trump can put his flirting with Ukraine and Europe behind him in the next 6 months or so, Trump will get his base back and Republicans will SWEEP in 2026.

If we can’t win these districts then we deserve to lose. Wise up.

I recall a lot of dims not running several years ago. They can read the political winds just like the reps.

unlike recent R retirees, at least he’s waiting until the end of his term to step down.

You are so right. We need more like him and I hope Dist.22 will replace him with someone who can carry on in Nehls place.

Anybody that doesn’t think exactly like me on every topic is a RINO

That acronym has been so overused, it’s almost meaningless

My guess for so many Republicans retiring is that the Deep State has lots of dirt on them and have threatened to expose them if they don’t quit.
