I would suggest the Danish politicians that came up with this calculate their own gas, both out of the bottom end as well as the top end.
“Denmark Just Made Cattle Farming ILLEGAL Without Government Drugs!”
I believe that Denmark allows women to vote.
I can’t wait for them to do the same with pigs. A material part of Denmark’s exports are pork.
The Nazis have won. Remember Hitler was a vegetarian.
Denmark is about 16,000 square miles. Of all the cows in the world, only a tiny fraction are in Denmark, so even if this is effective its impact will be infinitesimal in the overall scheme of things.
The problem is if other countries start adopting it.
It’s not a drug, it’s an enzyme derived from marine algae aka seaweed. It’s actually good for the cow. Every molecule of methane is energy that could have been acetic acid what the cow actually uses to live.
God the scientific illiteracy is staggering.
First off a cow is a symbiotic fermentation machine that is it’s primary function. The whole purpose of its four chambered stomach is to house and make comfortable the trillions of bacteria that ferment inedible cellulose and hemi cellulose into three main products all of them volatile fatty acids (VFAs), which the cow uses for energy source it cannot eat grass it’s bacteria ferments grass for it. This VFA are acetic acid, propionic acid, and butyric acid.
Ok now follow closely this is what the important part is In the colonies of bacteria there are secondary ones that are from the cows point of view a parasitic organism. These bacteria take thuse VFA that are good for cow and instead use them for themselves to metabolize what do these free loading bacteria make? Methane and CO2 every gram of which is stolen energy and food from the cow. Not only is valuable energy lost but the cow now has to take the time and effort to purge itself of two useless products that contribute zero to its well being.
So what does this “drug” do it has an enzyme that inhibits those free loading bacteria from the chemical pathway to turn VFAs into methane. Again every gram of VFA not turned to methane is more literal food for the cow. More feed gets turned into meat vs useless methane and CO2.
So it’s a good thing the lack of scientific understanding is sad. Not everything is a grand conspiracy, sometimes it’s solid science, the algae is fairly common and can be cultivated so it’s not terribly expensive the fact you get healthier ,heavier cows off the same feed rations offsets some of the costs as well. It’s also good for safety reasons methane is explosive it’s not uncommon for feed lots to blow up or burn down when the methane is not vented well. Happened in Texas a few years back when a spark set off methane and it blew up a huge feed lot and killed tens of thousands of cattle. This enzyme stops methane production in it’s tracks no methane no boom. Again energy single gram of VFA not secondary fermented to methane is more food for the cow. Keep repeating it until the brain understands this basic fact.
My families grass fed cows in South Texas on 300 year old land grants from as far back as New Spain era are on seaweed supplements not only for this enzyme it’s a great source of minerals you don’t need range cubes anymore. They haven’t be drugged at all it’s just a feed supplement people hyperventilating as usually over a nothingburger. The Dutch want to mandate it’s use fine it has real benefits in confined feed operations and feed conversion ratio as well. I would be on board for its mandate here too it should be a no brainer, again every F’ing gram of VFA not secondary fermented to methane is more food for the cow it is this simple.
Drugs that supposedly make the cows sick and kill them.
If it’s GOOD for them, the question is why are the cows getting sick & dying. Obviously something else is going on. What other ‘additive’ might be in there?
