It seems like it could be time, again, to carry a car/truck rifle and one of those cloth grocery sacks full of magazines. Remember that many states have laws against carrying a “loaded” rifle in a vehicle. In most states a rifle with a loaded magazine, but no round in the chamber is “unloaded”. Check the laws in your state. And don’t let the invaders swarm and kill you. If you run out of mags you were not prepared.

Sounds a lot safer than Iraq. In Iraq the mission was to ‘rebuild’ the economy against a bunch of KGB-directed insurgents and home grown radicals. Funded by Qatar, Iran and others. So we were trying to run a facade of a functioning nation all the while we and the IA were the targets of attacks 24/7 to make it seem like a functioning country. Iraq had no safe spots outside the wire. Maybe some up in Kirkuk I heard of cuz the Kurds were safeguarding.
The only thing that worked was vicious, aggressive payback. No RoEs. The El Savs got the reputation for that. Also 3rd AD. But no reporting on the war down south against AIQ, Mahdi, Iran, etc. So... Free Fire Zone cage fighting when the S went up.

I should have been more specific. The Sleeper Cells would probably use IEDs. Plenty of people/terrorists from the Middle East have come through the border.
I visited Puerto RIco 20 years ago, and was amazed. Those people buy wrought iron and razor wire by the metric ton for home security. The very nice resort hotel the event we were there for was at, had perimeter security guards in pairs with shotguns.
Never saw a need to go back.
