Yes driving up the price. Probably.

But if I pay $500 to fly from 0’Hare on Tuesday night and you say you can fly Wednesday morning instead and have a two hour layover in Dallas —-

I am not getting what I paid for and am entitled to a refund. End of story.

Have you ever flown on a commercial airliner? One doesn’t just show up at the airport and buy a ticket with cash these days.. The issue is how do people that buy non refundable tickets or use miles get compensated for weather and mechanical issues. If the delay is severe enough people might cancel their trip all together. The non refundable tickets and airline mile reservation tickets are good for a year. If you don’t have any plans to travel to that location in the next year you might have to eat the expense.

This is a DANGEROUS development.

Also, some Africanized Americans have become experts at causing problems, gaming for free stuff or a refund. This rule would make flying a nightmare.

The story says 3 hours domestic and 6 hours international.
I assume the charge on the credit card could be reversed.

However then you’d have to buy another ticket, no?

Yep and people don’t realize that any delay along any one of the corridors, or weather around the airports, causes a ripple effect throughout the whole system (planes continuing to other destinations/connections)...

This is just another example why the LAWMAKING of the administrative state has to be under direct complete legislative and chief executive active control on any and every rule the administrative state wants to issue. That would mean such rules can be no more than proposals to Congress, which would be followed by the proposals going to the appropriate House and Senate committees, followed hearings in the committees, followed by up or down votes by the committees, and if voted out of a committee then the proposal must be approved by full votes of the House and the Senate, followed by approval or veto by the President. Further, I’d give the House and Senate only four years to take retroactive action on all existing rules or they’d become retired rules.

Will the government also be bringing this government rule to the government operated AMTRAK?

Versus the nebulous vouchers that could only be used on September 31st every third leap year.
