What if it was the only way to get Georgia and thus win?

In presidential politics winning is the only thing.

Kemp really is a scumbag.
I have no doubt he’d already planned to team with Democrats while he was still running for governor the first time.

He likely grew up in a “my daddy was a Democraat and his daddy was a Democrat” household.

No one is above the law, but no one should be targetted by the law to attempt to find something, anything they might have done, much less have a prosecutor run for office saying they would do exactly that.

That is the exactly opposite of fair and impartial justice.

Digging for years to find something, anything, and then finally finding something vague you can charge them with and then claiming... no one is above the law sounds more like justice in the soviet union that the US.

He is descended from a prominent family which includes several GA state politicians and officials.

And yes, they were all Democrats.

There will be a lot of awkward questions if Trump picked Kemp, questions like “How can you run with Donald Trump after all the things you’ve said about him and all the things you’ve said he’s done?” It would be hard enough to get the two of them on the platform together. And if they were elected, Kemp, like so many in Trump’s first administration, would be actively working against him.

Based on what happened to his daughter’s boyfriend in 2020, I’d say they are threatening his family.

“If Nixon was impeached would the Senate have convicted him?
I suggest not”

Nixon was going to be impeached. A group of senior Republicans met with him to give him the bad news as well as the fact a number of Republican Senators would vote to convict. Whether there were enough Republicans votes to convict in the Senate we do not know because Nixon resigned before the House could impeach.

It is conceivable Nixon could have lost a Senate vote. Democrats had 57 Senate seats in 1974, Republicans 41. In addition there was one independent and one Conservative Party senator. Ten Republican votes, or 8 Republicans and the two non-major party Senators, and a unanimous Democrat vote would have convicted him. Remember Trump had 7 Republican Senate votes for impeachment in the second impeachment trial in 2021. At the time of his resignation Nixon’s approval rating in public polls was 24%. GOP Senators would have been under tremendous pressure from the media and the public to convict particularly those representing liberal states which today would not elect a Republican. As it was, the Republicans lost 3 Senate seats in fall 1974 elections after Nixon’s resignation.

Nixon knew he was certain to be impeached by the Democrat majority House. He was a student of both history and a master politician. He, like Trump, was a fighter and did not back down easily. After being visited by several Republican Senators he likely decided, with impeachment certain, there was better than a 50/50 chance of being convicted in the Senate. By resigning, he avoided being the second president impeached, and possibly the first removed from office after a Senate conviction.

It is noteworthy the Democrats did not pursue impeachment and conviction in the Senate after Nixon left office. In the 1970’s politics had not yet become as intensely coarse, partisan and vindictive as it is today. Today’s Democrats have no respect for the Constitution and history. Pelosi’s pursuit of impeachment, and the Democrat attempt to convict Trump after he left office in 2021, was purely driven by spite and hatred, not duty to the Constitution.

No one, not even a President, should be subject to prosecution for ‘speech crime.’ Period.

He’s right: no one is above the law.

However, the law in the USA is that presidents have absolute immunity from civil damages actions regarding conduct within the “outer perimeter” of their duties.

Nixon v. Fitzgerald (1982).

The reason is the separation power doctrine, which makes presidential elections and impeachment the sole means of holding a POTUS accountable. If a POTUS was not immune from lawsuits, elections would be easily overridden, and the voters’ right to choose a President would be diminished.

The idea is - in the case of a POTUS - let the voters be judge and jury every four years.

Things like that have been done before. That’s the reason for the origin of that saying about pissing in or out of the tent. As far as being questioned about it goes, they just announce a newly discovered hidden love & respect for each other. Politicians have done similar things in the past! Think Jefferson-Hamilton, Jackson-Calhoun, Lincoln and anyone of his cabinet members, McKinley-TR (If I researched it i probably could find other political enemy-political enemy pairings!) It removes Kemp\Rathsberger as potential obstacles to taking Georgia. Not my favorite choice by any means but Trump must have Georgia!

“Trump will be acquitted.”

Where is the trial, who is the judge, who is the jury? If DC or NYC judge and jury, the conviction is already in the books, figuratively speaking. You and I might think he is innocent of the charges, but the lawfare against him is relentless and coordinated with unlimited power and money behind it and has the upper hand of judge, jury, and prosecutor.
