I’m surprised that cameras have such little effect on modern Americans.

I think security cameras would have had a huge effect in 1965 and the difference is probably that the law would have investigated the crimes rather than just tell you to call in a report if you want.

You beat me to it.

A guy I know owns an apartment building in a sketchy part of town. Well, one night someone used spray paint to tag the back wall of the apartment’s garage. The owner knew who did it. He didn’t call the police. He just called the kid’s parents.

The next night someone broke every window in that garage.

It’s not Eisenhower’s America any more.

Catching porch pirates has to be one of the easiest things to do, given accelerometers, GPS, and AirTags. The fact so few police departments bother to do so is a sad testament to their actual purpose, which evidently has almost nothing to do with preserving law and order, let alone protecting and serving the general public.

That was my first thought when I saw the word bricks.
Low lifes who steal from doorways often seem tlto think the crime victim “iwes ir” to the thief to allow himself to be stolen from without any kind of resistance.
