This is the smallest box of the three that were available, and since the milk boxes were too small for PV (he weighed 22# so almost every box was too small for him) I figured Chip would prefer one that is too small. I’m going to leave it in the kitchen so I don’t hear him if he decides to play in it during the wee hours. I just want to encourage him to relax a little more, poor baby.

Yeah, I thought it was too early to tell about the job, but I had to ask. Fall will be here before Tom knows it, especially if his new job is better than he expects it to be!

It’s going to be in the low 40’s tonight, and I suspect I’ll be staying home tomorrow. The dedication starts at 1000, but if I want a decent seat, I’ll have to be there at least by 0900. It lasts two hours and then I’ll have to either leave before its over or wait 30 minutes for the crowd to leave.

That makes the entire thing almost four hours. And THAT means I either have to stay home or sit through the entire time being doped up, trying to keep the pain at bay, especially with the weather like it is. Which means I won’t enjoy a minute of it.

So I’ll stay home and keep Chip company.

Good morning. I hope you and Chip had a good night. Jake is picking up food in his paw again.

What a pensive looking baby! He should be named “Specs.”

Good morning. I hope you had a good night.

Chip and I had a strange night. He ate something and used the litter box or vice-versa, and was in his Artistic Mood again, so it took a while. I came out and don’t know where he scattered to, but I listened to a couple of uplifting talks when I heard him in the box again.

I had put locks on the cupboard doors, “just-in-case,” and took advantage of the fact that he had vacated the cupboards. I closed them, stuck the other ends of the locks on the cupboards and caused no trauma to Chip. THAT was what I most feared. How would I get him out without traumatizing him again?

So I went back to sleep. I have a small rug in front of the sink, and it looks as though he tried during the night to get in the cupboards again. It’s such a relief to know he won’t hurt himself on the chemicals or the trash!

As soon as I can get some curtains up in the bedroom and hall closets, he’ll have two more hidey-holes. Maybe the Catholic thrift store a couple of blocks away has them. I want to do all I can to make him feel at home but still keep him safe.

The wind has finally died down, but the temp is down to 44° and will only be up to 57° today. After a week of creeping heat, the temp takes a drastic plunge.

Good morning. I had disagreeable dreams involving, among other things, forgetting to take children to golf lessons and driving a sports car down a ramp into a fancy dinner club.

I’m glad the cabinets are secured. Chip will find a new lurking spot.

It’s cold here, too, but it’s supposed to be in the 60s later, which will be nice for a Palm Sunday procession.

Josie’s and Sally’s birthdays are this week. I ordered them flower arrangements from a florist in their neighborhood. I was going to order something for Elen, whose birthday is the following week, but the website said the address didn’t exist. Turns out I had a letter wrong. Gah. Also, she doesn’t check her mail very often.

Said I had Bill’s address wrong, too, so I texted him to clear it up.

I’m sorry about your dreams. I hate when mine are confusing like that.

I think Chip is getting used to the place, even if he isn’t used to me! It will come. Eventually.

I wish I could raise and lower the blind in the living room, but the previous tenant’s son fixed that. He removed the cord that allowed for the raising and lowering of the entire blind. So Chip can’t sit in the window without damaging the slats.

I need to go shower.

Happy birthday to all the kids who are celebrating this week and next! We have a cluster of birthdays in a two week period in May and June, then nothing until Christmas.

But I have a Birthday Book that I got from Avon a lifetime ago that reminds me of all the birthdays I’ve forgotten about until two weeks after they’ve happened.

Now, shower!

I need to shower, too. You could find out how much a new blind would be. Lots of new ones don’t have a cord: you just push up or pull down, and it stays.

Elen says she wants a backpack for heavy-duty hiking, so I got her a gift card from REI, after looking over the prices on their website to decide a reasonable amount. (A Scout is Thrifty.)

Now there’s just Bill, and I’ll order something for him once he confirms his address. I know he gets letters, but the package order didn’t like the way the address was given: he said it’s Queens, NY, but they want it to be Astoria, NY. I’ll see what he says.

Weather report or the winter so far:
Near continuous rain interrupted by the occasional sunny day.
The local river has been inspecting the fields around for most of the winter.
The temperature has only gone below freezing for a couple of days , but the wind over the cold water has made the air rather cutting.
Today is one of the sunny days, about ten degrees C. However the wind is from the north and has teeth.
The grass has had its first cut of the heat and the spring flowers are in full bloom. The Magnolias are in full bloom.
Birds are beginning to reappear , after a near total loss due to bird flu over the last year.

Cows are still vertical with a leg on each corner.

We are all fine here and hope you are the same. The jasmine is blooming, and we have lots of birds.

Probably expensive because it’s a large living room window. Inside measurements are 48” H X 76” W, so no cheap fix. I’d love for it to be the touch kind. FS put those in his house when he bought it, and I like the way they look. I also like the colors they come in. I just don’t know what the name is. And this place isn’t going to have them on hand, so I’d have to buy them and pay for the installation.

Anyway, I feel like I’m cheating Chip by not giving him a window sill.

I had a backpack and a carry-on when I went to Pakistan. I still refer to the backpack as my “Industrial-size Backpack!” Before I got the BB SUV, I would ride the bus to Walmart (or walk, if the weather was nice) with the backpack and an insulated tote bag and those held my groceries for most of the month. It’s beginning to show its age (2004) but I don’t really want to part with it.

Just get Bill something he can use on his Elusive Adventures and he’ll be happy!

Shower is done. I feel much better! I’ll listen to a couple of talks, then write in my Chip book. He may not appreciate it, but I will, when I drag it out to reminisce!

Good news indeed.
The country side has been weird with out birds. So glad they are returning.
They just seam to coalesce out of the ether.

Sorry to hear about your country, but it does have a new Ruler, so things were bound to change.

A photo popped up on my FB feed this morning of the late Queen walking past a Queen’s Guard, only to burst out laughing when she realized it was her own dear Prince Philip. (One “l” or two “ll”s?)

If it pops up again, I’m going to save it. I loved that woman! She was one of a kind. I can’t imagine you being quiet about anything! Maybe we should devise a code...

Natural selection: the ones who survived the avian flu have the pick of the habitats and food resources.

The bird flu hit Vegas a few years ago, and it was the same thing — they disappeared and then all of a sudden, they were back again. Weird!
