Highway Engineering. Most Subcontinent and Middle Eastern engineers prefer sitting behind a desk and working 8-5.
American engineers (even Americans of the above descent) aren't afraid to get their hands dirty, working on construction sites, meeting with the construction foremen and workers, getting other folks to work together, and finding solutions on the fly.

OTOH, one of those expert carpenters didn’t have the slightest idea how to use a crescent wrench. Just held it and stared at it until I took it and tightened the lag bolts.

Indians are not handy with anything. They have trouble doing the slightest bit of manual labor. At least the ones who come here.
The caste system applies to almost every part of life. Those in the higher parts never do the menial manual labor. Ever. If it's not your station to turn on the light switch, you simply don't do it. You (don't) wait for one of the lower guys to do it for you. And you might never even know how that miraculous light turns on by itself.
