In the past the Spanish-speaking countries of Latin America, along with Brazil, were almost entirely Catholic, but the Catholic Church has lost a lot of ground in recent decades--in some countries it is now in the 60% to 80% range. The World Almanac has a bit over 500 million Catholics in Latin America but a bit over 100 million other Christians.

Pope Francis seems determined to do his best to destroy the church in Latin America.

The Catholic Church in the US is trying to keep Latin American immigrants in the church by providing Masses in Spanish, but a lot of them belong to Protestant churches.
