That is a simple translation error. A better way to express the meaning of the original Russian (without all the swear words), is that they “intercepted” the missiles.
They just choose to intercept them with Flag Officers, warships, munitions factories and such; instead of Air Defense missiles, like weak and decadent Westerners would.
