“Bloomberg: Deliveries of Russian liquefied natural gas to EU countries in EU ports in August fell by more than 25%”
Maybe that is what prompted a group of stories yesterday, that Russian LNG sales to Europe had grown - just blowing smoke to obscure a problem.
You have the same posting style as redneck, kazan and cranked 🤔
Yup old tech solution for an old tech adversary
Perfect
“old tech solution for an old tech adversary” (Chaparral SHORAD launchers to fire the old AIM-9Ms)
As Dr. Franklin pointed out yesterday, as long as they are capable of defeating the Russian weapons, how old they are doesn’t much matter.
Downing just a few dozen more Russian Ka-52 Attack Helicopters would make a big difference. More than 40, out of the approximately 100 Russia had, have already been destroyed (along with many of their best pilots).
When the war gets to a period of rapid maneuver, Attack Helicopters are perhaps the biggest threat to moving armored formations. They can attack quickly, and each one can destroy several vehicles in a short time, halting or slowing the column, far outside the range of Artillery.
The role of Chaparral was specifically to accompany the Armored and Mechanized maneuver units on the move, to keep those Attack Helicopters and Close Air Support jets (like the Su-24 and Su-25) off their backs. Those big (9 foot) missiles can reach out higher and further than Stingers.
Higher oil prices may save Russia from a near term economic implosion. WTI nearing $86 and Brent nearing $89 today. Russian Urals grade oil is now selling at a much smaller discount than a few months back - and well above the $60 price cap (averaged $74 per barrel in August). These changes mostly happened in the last month or so, rather than being some steady gradual development.
Oil Reaches New 2023 High
By Julianne Geiger - Sep 01, 2023 (https://oilprice.com/Energy/Crude-Oil/Oil-Reaches-New-2023-High.html )
“A big factor in the rising price of crude oil are the falling inventories in the United States, which dipped another 10.6 million barrels according to the Energy Information Administration for the week ending August 25.
Another contributing factor to strong oil prices is the OPEC+ alliance, which includes heavyweights Saudi Arabia and Russia. The duo has reached a deal concerning production cuts, for which Russia has said it will provide details next week. The market is weighing the likelihood that Saudi Arabia or Russia could extend or deepen their current production cuts. More analysts than not expect that Saudi Arabia will extend its 1 million bpd production cut into October.
A third support under oil prices is the weakening dollar, which makes crude oil more affordable for non-dollar holders, thereby stimulating demand.”
Ka-52s have an effective missile range of 15 miles, but the new UA drones that explode midair could be a real threat to them.
Partly due to the end of the cold war and reshaping our military, and more recently due to our obsession with laser weapon systems, the US has created a large hole in our defenses where the Chaparral once was. Fortunately, it is tech we have mastered. The latest versions of Sidewinder are now BVR and lock-on-after-launch. An M113 or Stryker based platform could easily carry AIM-9X for short to medium range and a 4pack of Stingers for very short range, and would be tied to integrated air defenses.
Prototypes for the Army’s new M-SHORAD Stryker had AIM-9X, but the production version seems to be limited to VSHORAD, with the Stinger and a 30mm cannon. And of course, future plans for a laser. Great for small drones, not so great for a helicopter firing an ATGM from 10-15 miles away.
(VSHORAD) “not so great for a helicopter firing an ATGM from 10-15 miles away.”
Maybe Russia was the main threat of this, and might not be after next year.
While the Aim-9M has been replaced by the Aim-9X and is technically "old," it is still a fabulous missile.
As it turns out, the Chaparral SHORAD launcher is the perfect launch vehicle for the Aim-9M.
Here's a pic:
The Aim-9M has to be locked onto (tracking) the target at launch.
The launch vehicle must therefore be able to track the target in azimuth and elevation, which the Chaparral can do.
This allows the missile seeker to acquire the target. The operator then uncages the seeker head and the missile self-tracks the target.
The operator then launches the missile.
The biggest improvement in the 9M over the 9L is flare reject. Once again, making the 9M ideal for the Chaparral.

Very Violent.
“I had to repost the video from the 46th Brigade and add a violence tag.
It’s the sad reality of the war. It’s brutal, and russians invaders are dying in large numbers.
Unfortunately, they fight back even when wounded because their government brainwashed them.
Feel free to like and RT it once again.”

Does the launcher pit out any kind of signal that can be seen by enemy
Sounds like they could have used these many many months ago
