It’s still possible to rent the Big Pink house for short stays.

Lifelong friends may only be in touch occasionally, maybe once a year.

On one of the recordings of Dylan & The Band’s early live shows in England, you can hear one of the folkies yell ‘traitor’, you can hear Dylan tell The Band, ‘play it f***ing loud’, and they kick into ‘Like A Rolling Stone’.

But remember, folk was the music of protest, it was the music of intellectuals. Dylan was viewed as the best hope to take up the torch carried by lefties like Woody Guthrie, Pete Seger, etc. Rock was just viewed as disposable pop music drowned out by audiences of screaming teenybopper girls. Seeing Dylan appearing onstage with what would become The Band, with electric guitars and drums no less, was like watching The Devil appear.

“…To get up in a coffee house or a college auditorium and come out
In favor of the things that everybody else in the audience is against,
Like peace and justice and brotherhood and so on...”

This is what I love about this place. An eclectic mix of the best and brightest this country has to offer on a global range of subjects. As a music aficionado of sorts I greatly appreciate others here that enlighten me and remind me of all the great music and interactions I overlook far to often. One of my regrets in life is not having more time to study and explore the music that is the soundtrack to my life.

“ But remember, folk was the music of protest, it was the music of intellectuals.”

Of communists.

They thought it was The People’s music. They had theories.

"Robbie Robertson helped create a sound on Blonde on Blonde that hasn't been heard since. Kudos to him and rest in peace."

Here. Bob, Robbie and the Hawks tell the folkies to stuff it.

A defining moment in rock and roll history.

"Play it %#*%$#*$% loud!!"

I love that version almost as much as I love The Band with The Staple Singers from The Last Waltz.

It was pretty much like hillbilly music.

They thought it was, but it was a pale imitation.

Or a slick imitation.
