This is still going on? After the Uke counteroffensive Cannae (your figures) how are Russians able to soldier on?

Of course, they could not be JDAMs because, according to FRruzzians, ruzzia has air superiority.
Just to set the record straight:
After hearing the incessant complaints about how this thread is some sort of Pro-Ukraine spam, I counted the number of stories about Ukraine when I signed on this morning.
The were 6 stories, and only one was Pro-Ukraine. The others were, in one way or another, Pro-Putin. Further, of those 5, 2 posted by one known Pro-Putin troll, as were 3 of the others.

“This is still going on? “
Yep. I’ve predicted a 10 year war.
RuZZian casualties over 1 million. Maybe many more.
JDAMs
Nothing like the smell of dead RuZZian Boys in the morning.
The link below (from yesterday) has a video that shows the explosion. Note the shockwave when the warhead detonates.

Some pretty pictures:
Have Mercy! I finally agree with you on something. I’ve said for 16 months that we have been stumbled into a generational, multi trillion dollar new cold war. Your Russian casualty figure is probably way low. With the traitors and dipshits running this catastrophe in DC, the Russians are quite liable to lose 100 million people. With our vastly larger population, we could easily see 200 plus million dead, including deaths from starvation. “10 years”, good for you, you can think for yourself.
“10 year war.”
I think it would have to downshift to a much slower pace of Operations, to endure that long.
NATO planners can count the attrition of Russian combat platforms, much better than we can on this thread. When they are done, that are done.
I also find it hard to envision Russia coming up with the money to pay for several more years like this. They are facing economic and Government finance crisis conditions next year.
…also, I doubt that Putin could endure 10 years as well - physically or in power.
Peak China. From 30 million in the 1960s to 8 million in 2023.
“Births in China could drop below 8 million this year, setting a record low and further clouding the country’s gloomy demographic outlook, according to a leading medical academic.
“The expected number of births in 2023 is estimated to be around 7 million to 8 million,” Qiao Jie, dean of the Health Science Centre at Peking University, said on Tuesday at a forum on innovations in medical technologies.
She added that the number of Chinese newborns has been cut by around 40 per cent in the past five years, and that improving female fertility is the key to increasing China’s fertility rate.
Illustrating just how bad she believes the situation has got, last year’s 9.56 million births in China represented the lowest total in modern history, and it was the first time the figure had dipped below 10 million.
The country’s plunging birth rate has increased public concern in recent years, with discussions pushed to new heights when it was revealed that China’s population shrank by 850,000 people last year, marking the first such fall since 1961.”
Russian Ruble is the 2nd worst performing currency against the U.S. Dollars this year right behind the worst performing Angolan Kwanza.
Answer is simple. Capture more lands and absorb their populations. Lots of people in Taiwan! in Vietnam! Xi could just makes an edict—all Chinese women must have a baby or face prison. Offer marriage services, stop all abortions. Give prizes to women with the most children. Its a dictatorship after all.
“Ukraine’s Sea Drones Alter Balance of Power in Black Sea”
“Kyiv has used the unmanned vessels to strike back at Russia’s more powerful navy”
“Ukraine has altered the military balance of power in the Black Sea in recent months, using sea drones to strike back at Russia’s more powerful navy and threaten Russian military supply lines and shipping lanes.
Small, inexpensive and difficult to defend against, the homemade drones have allowed Ukraine to open up a new front in the war, attacking strategic military targets and symbols of Russia’s dominance in the Black Sea—including the headquarters of Moscow’s fleet in occupied Crimea and a bridge connecting the peninsula to Russia. Ukraine says the drones are developed and produced domestically, but has been secretive about the details of the program.
The strikes have intensified in recent days as Ukraine has retaliated against a wave of Russian missile and drone strikes on Ukrainian ports on the Black Sea and threats to attack civilian ships heading to Ukraine. Russia also withdrew in July from an international agreement that allowed Ukraine to resume its Black Sea grain exports last year, imperiling a key link in the global food-supply chain.”
I’ve seen videos of the Russians using a Phalanx CIWS type gun on Muzzie pirates. I wonder if they have these to protect other ships?
ISW, 10 August:
“The Kremlin is likely attempting to crypto-nationalize Russian internet giant Yandex (their biggest search engine, and like Google/Alphabet, also the provider of several popular services) to strengthen control over the Russian information space in preparation for the 2024 Russian presidential election…
… in order to comply with strict Russian data disclosure laws requiring Yandex to supply all user data – not just data of users in Russia – to the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB). (Also to perform censorship)…
…The possible transfer of Yandex to affiliates of Russian First Deputy Presidential Chief of Staff Sergey Kiriyenko suggests that Putin seeks to reward Kiriyenko for his personal loyalty, particularly following the June 24 Wagner Group rebellion.”
)In addition, there was also a disruptive cyberattack on several of the more popular VPNs in Russia, and an information campaign was launched to influence Russians to distrust VPNs.)
“Russian Ruble is the 2nd worst performing currency against the U.S. Dollars this year right behind the worst performing Angolan Kwanza.”
The big difference is that last month’s rate hike has stabilized the Kwanza, while the drop in the Ruble is accelerating.
Russia still has a great shot at taking the title for the year, before it’s over. They have Putin, and he is a one man wrecking crew for economies.
Oil prices have been climbing for about a month. Brent up to $87 today, WTI around $83.50
