Victoria Nuland gave the con away with her awkward pause tell
when she ,
in my OPINION,
almost said bioweapon lab, stopped herself , and said biolab.
.
Fauci used the same faulty presuppositional fallacy as justification for gain of function research.
In order to develop a specific counter measure to a specific future unknown contagion
one needs to know what that specific ( future unknown) contagion IS
and by definition , if it is an future unknown developed contagion, you can’t know what that is
cuz it’s unknown
and in the future
( unless fauci is a prophet /-)
And if you don’t know what it is
you can’t develop a counter measure.
Its a presuppositional fallacy
Cart before the horse
It’s slick and sophisticated reasoning ,
but misleading,
intentionally a bait and switch con,
and false.
Both fauci and Nuland know that.
Rubio stumbled over a can of worms and spooked Nuland imo.
It would be nearly impossible to conduct halfway substantive conversations here at Free Republic without a certain degree of supposition. In other words, it must be expected that other FReepers will make certain inferences if you enter into a discussion about, say, Hitler, and make some "casual" remark like, "Some of the goals he stated in 'Mein Kampf' are sensible!"
Without further context, the other FReepers are entitled to infer that you are "throwing in" with the Nazis.
Likewise, when you enter a heated discussion about the Ukraine conflict, with two sides flinging invective at each other (or advancing reasoned arguments - whichever you prefer), and voice a lukewarm opinion like, "We have other problems we should first deal with," you shouldn't be surprised when other FReepers then assume that you have "thrown in" with those advocating non-involvement.
Regards,
Alexander Fleming discovered Penicillin by accident. It is by all means possible to develop a treatment without (exactly) knowing the specific contagion.

The contagions and illness’
penicillin treats
WERE known,, were KNOWN.
You’ve bait and switched the basis of my argument.

the other FReepers are entitled to infer
....No, they aren’t.
Entitlement is a prog trait.

voice a lukewarm opinion like, “We have other problems we should first deal with,”
..anything but lukewarm dude.
you shouldn’t be surprised when other FReepers then assume that you have “thrown in”
... I’m not surprised,, progs whole existence relies on assumptions as opposed to facts.
Cases of severe bird flu affecting humans in that part of EUrope were being reported 20 years ago as I pointed out in my comment #84. People affected were farmers with flocks of fowl. Thus it would be reasonable for Ulraine to be studying this particular contagion as part of their agricultural science responsibility. Given the behavior of Russia over the entire past 100 years, considering the military aspect of contagions is also sensible and responsible. We know the Russians have lots of nasty bugs in their labs. Also they seem willing to commit any war crime they think they can get away with.
What was stupid and perhaps criminal on Fauci’s part was conducting gain of function research in the homeland of a potential enemy on a pathogen that probably originated there. Yikes!
Are you under the impression I don’t view Russia as a threat ?
Is that why I’ve been pinged to this thread ?
you can’t fight an enemy when the time comes to fight
If your home base isn’t secure.
The enemies are inside the freaking wire.
Broken arrow.

Kinda like this guy in "Thing From Another World"...
Yup, still waiting for all the evidence from the russians about the bio-weapons labs, they collected when they invaded the country of Georgia.
Russia claims US running secret bio weapons lab in Georgia-October 4, 2018
Russia’s Defense Ministry said Thursday that the United States appeared to be running a clandestine biological weapons lab in the country of Georgia, allegedly flouting international conventions and posing a direct security threat to Russia — allegations the Pentagon angrily rejected.
Maj. Gen. Igor Kirillov, the head of the Russian military’s radiation, chemical and biological protection troops, alleged at a briefing that the lab in Georgia was part of a network of U.S. labs near the borders of Russia and China. The allegations were based largely on materials about the U.S.-funded Richard G. Lugar Center for Public Health Research in Tbilisi, Georgia. Kirillov claimed the documents released by former Georgian State Security Minister Igor Giorgadze showed the facility was funded entirely by the U.S and the Georgian ownership it has on paper was a cover.
He noted that Giorgadze’s materials cited the deaths of 73 volunteers who took part in tests of a new drug at the lab in 2015-2016. The claim couldn’t be independently confirmed.
