Putin made a catastrophic mistake invading Ukraine. At his core he is a Russian nationalist who was aghast that the Soviet Union which was essentially the Russian empire fell apart. Most Westerners don’t realize that Russian nationalists never forgave Khrushchev for redefining Crimea, a place where many Russians died , to be part of Ukraine. Nevertheless this war has almost totally negated any progress Russia has made after nearly ninety years of soul crushing communism. It has also created strategic problems for Russia for a very long time. It is now obvious that Russia cannot conventionally defend its rich underpopulated Asian -Pacific territories or the treasure house of Siberia. Its relations with the West are now probably worse than they were in 1948. The future of the Russian federation is in question.

Yet it is worth remembering that if not for the suffering and sacrifices of the Russian people, how many Americans, especially people on FR would exist today. If the Russians had not fought so fiercely, took such huge casualties and not mauled the best of the German army (over 2.5 million German casualties on the eastern front from 1941-1945) how much more difficult and how many more Americans would have died liberating Europe from an intact German army? Most of the American soldiers deployed to Europe in WW II returned home and fathered the baby boom. If the German army had been intact far fewer would have led complete lives.

Personally take no joy in the continued suffering of the Russian and Ukrainian people. That is why a peacemaker that could arrange a just peace to alleviate the suffering of these people would truly be blessed.

Seems like misdirection, distractions, making the Russians see ghosts everywhere. Not only do these attacks strain Russians logistics and resources.
Additionally when Russians are moving they tend to be nice targets

I could see the Ukrainians attacking several places at the same time or better yet in sequence. Strong forces but not the main thrust. Attack say in the north advance as far as they can drawing the Russian forces to the attack. Russians despite what many say are still short on manpower and they have a huge border both external and internal they need to cover. If the attack is stopped go defensive and let the next attack start say south of bakmut. Do the same thing. Then hit north and south of bakmut in force.
As the Russian scurry hither and yon hit them with everything they have.

Then launch the expected southern attack toward mariopol. I would expect strong resistance but much less as the forces have been worn down chasing ghosts
My 2 cents

“CIA added one star today to its Memorial Wall, which honors fallen officers.”

May God welcome that brave soul to a Heavenly reward, and comfort the family.

Let's not forget Stalin allied with Hitler, and with Nazi Germany, began to divide up Europe between them. Only when Hitler betrayed Stalin did Russia become an ally of convenience. Nor should we forget that Stalin seized much of Europe, and committed genocide against multiple countries, and that Russia was little better than Nazi Germany in the murder of innocent people, and worse in ethnic cleansing.

That is why a peacemaker that could arrange a just peace to alleviate the suffering of these people would truly be blessed.

I think we can all agree on those words. The problem is defining a "just peace". How much land must Ukraine sacrifice? How much of Ukraine's industrial, agricultural and natural resources does Russia get to keep? Who provides guarantees Russia won't be back for another grab at land and resources? Ukraine's fight is litterally existential.

I think you give the USSR too much credit for defeating Germany.

Remember the USA developed the A Bomb shortly after Germany surrendered.

If the war had gone on much longer, Germany would have been nuked instead of Japan forcing their defeat and ended the war in Europe. The A Bomb saved countless American lives in the Pacific and would have saved countless American lives in Europe if the war was prolonged.

Well said, often forgotten is that Stalin was essentially allied with Germany at the beginning of the war. Also rarely acknowledged or taught is that Stalin allowed Germany to train their forces in the Soviet Union in the 30s
So the enemy of my enemy is my friend is true
I will acknowledge the sacrifices of the people of the Soviet Union in ending ww2 but it needs to be acknowledged that the war may never have happened without the participation of Stalin with Hitler

Additionally what would peace be as you said, after razing several Ukrainian cities and the death of tens of thousands of civilians and military members all the responsibility of Putin ( unless you abide by the idea that Ukraine should just have surrendered like the good Russian “brothers” should have)
Leaving Putin with any part of Ukraine would be rewarding this behavior, cue China, and increase the likelihood of further aggression by Putin and Xi
It is unlikely that Putin survives this if he is forced to withdraw and pay at least in financial terms for damage done, so what is putins motivation for “peace”
Both Ukraine and Putin are in a fight for their very existence.

Imagine an end to WW2 with Hitler still in power and ownership of at least parts of Europe. That’s what the peace at any cost folks are saying

The ruZzian occupiers plan to deport all children from Luhansk region to the russian federation under the guise of conducting “medical examinations”, the Center of National Resistance said.
The agency emphasized that such “medical examinations” in temporarily occupied territories are a fiction used by the occupiers to further deport Ukrainian children.

Stalin murdered over 3X more people than Hitler.

Just yesterday Putin was again personally denying Ukraine’s existence. This is a textbook genocide in progress. Shame on anyone living in peace and cheering on this industrial scale mass murder committed by Russia.

When they are not murdering and invading, ethnic cleansing and "population transfers" is what Russia does. It has been part of Russian doctrine for over a hundred years. Poles, Crimean Tatars, Kaliningrad, Moldova, the Baltics, Koreans and more. What better way to make a people disappear than moving them to Siberia or Kazakhstan, killing many on the way? Stealing the children makes a population disappear too. It just takes a little longer.
