There is NO panic.

“The wife of Belgorod Region Governor Gladkov was spotted at the international airport with belongings.”

100,000 RuZZian casualties to take a small, tiny, little, minute Ukrainian village.

“President Biden says Russia has lost over 100,000 casualties in Bakhmut.”

.......
Nice news but I’ve also read that Uke casualties were pretty high too. The question is .... was it worth it? That remains to be seen.

Russian forces are using GRAD systems extensively now

That is not surprising at all, I would be more worried if Russia was not counter attacking. Cross border attacks to show Russia they are not above it all or immune is giving them a taste of their own medicine.

I am not sure if the RFL hit and ran or are trying to hold. If this is a test of the Russian response and the RFL is trying to hold Russian territory for a while, it is risky.

Putin can not afford to show weakness by allowing Ukraine and Russian resistance groups occupy Russia for an extended period. Presumably, the RFL better have a plan to get back across the border fast if necessary.

For their own sake, they better have had a good exfil plan...

Uke casualties were pretty high too

Since the beginning of the year, Ukraine was performing a slow withdrawal from Bakhmut. Russia would send in untrained mobilized to find where Ukraine was, for artillery or more experienced soldiers to fight. Thousands of raw recruits were sacrificed this way, and died from exposure due to lack of warm weather gear and field encampments, lack of food, and non existant medical treatment.

Russia wanted to waste lives taking Bakhmut; Ukraine was more than willing to oblige them. If Russia was smart, they would have copied Ukraine during this year's extended winter and mud season. Hold the line, start correcting deficiencies, spend a few months training recruits, and get new equipment ready. They didn't.

Ukraine took losses, Russia's were several times higher due to Putin's and Prigozhin's ambitions and mismanagements of the campaign. Long term, Russia lost a lot of lives that could have and should have become better trained soldiers that could be used later on.

Russia attacked Bakhmut because it was one of the few places their logistics came together to attack. No other reason. There are five roads going to Bakhmut on the Russian side, and only two roads out on the Ukraine side. Russia is going nowhere fast beyond Bakhmut no matter what anyone says.

From the Ukrainian point of view Bakhmut is a Russian Pyrrhic victory, one that was extremely wasteful and pointless.

It better be better than this,

because that is not much of a plan.

///////
That’s the question that conservatives in the USA ask themselves every day because every day the price goes up.
