Another excellent point.
Finally, someone who understands GOPee politics.
This has been their pattern since Trump won in 2016.
Those people hate DeSantis anyway.
Basically, you want the GOP taken over RINOs and Neocons.
Trump would do better to attack the democrats and run on his record of low inflation and prosperity.
Trump doesn’t want to run a campaign on policy. If fact some of his rhetoric these days is 180 degrees opposite of how he governed as POTUS. Who knows what we would get in a lame duck second term from him. Amnesty?
Trump is what is he is. He’s not changing. He wants star in a no holds barred WWF Trump World political reality show and we are along for that ride like it or not.
LOL. Trump supports McConnell and McCarthy 200%. Trump has spent the last sizx months attacking any Republican that's to the left of McConnell. The three are redefining the party to the left.
Do you really believe that?
“Trump shifting into INSECURE HIGH SCHOOL MEAN GIRL MODE is off putting to Republicans like my wife. I just wish somebody in Trump’s inner circle would help him realize the downsides of those actions.”
And I wish more people would begin to realize the upside of these actions. Trump’s demeanor and rhetoric has gained him literally millions of new voters in the last two elections. His behavior demonstrated to a large segment of the population, who had turned their back on politics, that he was somebody different. If you claim you’re challenging the establishment but are afraid to break the rules of conduct set up by them, then all the talk in the world won’t convince a skeptical public that you’re genuine.
Another reason his aggressive style has been effective is that the downside isn’t really as big as many people think. I’m guessing your wife voted for Trump in both 2016 and 2020, despite her dislike of his style. The vast majority of conservative leaning voters who, like your wife, would like to see Trump tone down his rhetoric, will still vote for him.
BTW, people like your wife shouldn’t be confused with RINO’s whose objections to Trump’s behavior are just a pretense. For them, it’s not really Trump’s behavior, but rather what he stands for, that bothers them.
Trump’s “insecurities” are not insecurities at all. Trump attacked DeSantis harshly when most people were scratching their heads (i.e. when most people hadn’t figured out DeSantis’s intentions yet). Now that the rest of us know what Trump always knew - that DeSantis had no intention of serving out his full term as Florida’s governor - Trump’s behavior can be seen for what it was all along - a preemptive attack on a rival who was pretending to be an ally. If you ever don’t understand why Trump is doing something, just wait a few months and his reasons will usually become clear.
Trump has done nothing on election integrity. He has $250 million for that, and he won't do anything. I take that back. He has HURT election integrity by making it look like it's a wackadoo issue.
DeSantis worked on election integrity, and quietly fixed it in his state.
So, if election integrity is important, then it's pretty clear who one should support. DeSantis is at least an 8 or a 9, and Trump is a -10.
And I think the Dems and the big money types know Trump is on their side. Trump has pretty much retired from going after Democrats.
Trump forced DeSantis’s hand. Trump’s attacks and exposure of DeSantis forced him to make his intentions known sooner than he would have liked. DeSantis and his handlers likely wanted to wait till sometime in the fall to finally announce.
Had Trump not attacked him, DeSantis likely would have played coy, avoided criticizing Trump and would have let his media team slowly roll out a “grass roots” campaign to urge him to run. Then he would have played the humble routine for a month or two, talked about how his focus is on Florida, not the Presidency, until finally, he would “reluctantly” give in to the will of the people and announce he was running. He would have probably played the Ted Cruz routine for as long as he could, talking about how focused he was on Biden, not Trump, and his main rationale for why he would be a better choice than Trump would be that we need “youthful leadership”, or some similar political gobbledygook.
But all such plans went down in flames when Trump refused to play along. Trump is a master campaigner and strategist.
“… I’m guessing your wife voted for Trump in both 2016 and 2020, despite her dislike of his style…”
*******************************************************
She did…. proudly. She didn’t have a problem his “style” back then. Her “reservations” started with the DeSantis attacks.
If DeSantis does understand MAGA, he best start showing it soon.
He understands MAGA. He’s just not committed to it.
“ Trump is a master campaigner and strategist.”
***************************************
We shall see. I hope so but am worried. But, sadly, my hoped for Trump-DeSantis ticket is likely vaporized at this point. But if Trump can somehow manage to have that ticket rise from the ashes like the Phoenix he will truly be a master strategist.
Uniparty plant to keep Trump down.
No thanks.
Yes I recall in 2018 when about 40 GOP incumbent congress critters cashed in and sold out, depriving the party of the incumbent advantage in so many races and giving congress to the democrats. For many years through the 50s and 60s and seventies and eighties the GOP was quite comfortable to be the tame minority and let the democrats run the country. Finally in the 90s Newt Gingrich energized the party enough to gain control of the House and changed the course of events. But after he left, the GOP returned to its previous form. Some upside here and there but what have they gotten done in the last 30 years, really?
The DeSantis phenomenon reminds me of a core battle principle described in the Art of War — that is to never fully encircle the enemy, but instead provide a false sense of survival.
DeSantis is the fallacy courtesy of the Establishment
Resign as Governor or sit down and STHU, republican.
I’ll drink what your having.
Yes.
I came to that conclusion a while ago, and am getting out of the surround while the getting is good.
