Russians are no friends of mine. I don’t wish for them to get any real estate in this war. I just think their forces cannot be beat by Ukraine without nato intervention.
You just admitted you have not been keeping up. What has changed in 13 months?
Everything.
Mac gregor is a poor source. his predictions have been mostly wrong for a year now. Just pay attention to the battle maps and it shows actual progress. I use Ukraine leaning sources because although they are a few days behind, they eventually show losing ground.
So what has he been wrong about again? His sources are from the relationships he built while in Europe. I wouldn’t use any source that leans either way as a primary source.

He constantly predicted all sorts of defeats of Ukraine, starting from the Kiev operation, that did not come true.
Contrarily he failed to predict Ukrainian victories, at Kherson and Kharkov.
His “sources”, if any, are very poor.
Also, Zelenskyy has been going to the front throughout the conflict (and he was doing it even before the Minsk 2 armistice came into effect - even the Kremlin and the Human Rights ombudsman in Donetsk acknowledged had a positive effect in getting Azov to cease firing).
If you want some propaganda to pick around, how about Russia’s latest bunch of military recruitment ads.

He already explained Kherson and Kharkov were only victories because the Russian Army had to reset itself— it didn’t follow its doctrine because it wanted a negotiated settlement. It wasn’t an all-out invasion, contrary to the Ukrainian cheerleaders.
Wow....they even put a deal on the table, and the Uks refused it. Now they are not going to get another deal like it.
The Ukrainian victories were only victories because of a bad Russian assumption— and Putin even apologized to the families. He shouldn’t have went in soft. But those days are over.
His sources are better than what you are pulling from....and it is becoming more and more evident as each week passes. The only thing that saved the Ukrainian military was a moderate winter. Summer isn’t going to save them. They will be out of artillery ammo anyway, and that will be the end of the fight.

That is prime copium.
Russia simply failed, tactically and operationally, and continues to fail to this day. It had nothing to do with “soft” anything.
It took many levels of failure to predict the buzz-saw Ukraine put them through.
The problem with the “reset” was that Russia simply had no organization or infrastructure to deal with a mobilization. They had never contemplated calling up reservists. This was not a question of being “soft”, but of being incapable. A systemic failure. Since then they have had to scramble to deal with an entirely unanticipated situation.
MacGregor predicted none of this.
The mild winter did not prevent Russia from concentrating armor. Nor did it preclude armored attacks. Nor did it prevent logistical preparation.
At Vuhledar you can see armor advancing just fine. Just way too few tanks and vehicles to bull their way through Ukrainian firepower and take their objectives. One should then have seen them pass through exploiting forces to penetrate deeper, to take critical distant objectives, and to turn the Ukrainian flanks. Old Soviet doctrine would have made that a one day attack, followed by an avalanche flowing through the gap. From that point it would have been maneuver warfare oriented to that frequently expressed intention to create vast pockets, seize Ukrainian logistics nodes like the Dneiper bridges, and etc., as every staff college recommends.
But it didn’t happen, because Russia had nothing to use for an avalanche. And it’s not going to have that anytime this decade.
