I was watching the movie Kedi with my mother and her dog, when one of the cats ran off screen the dog took off around the corner trying to find the cat.

A Great movie with no profanity, safe for children and grandparents too

I have some acquaintances whose Jack Russell always notices and reacts to animals on TV. My Havanese is almost entirely oblivious to TV, except for an occasional dog barking or when, around the Fourth of July, some commercials use that whistling skyrocket sound, which she doesn’t like.

My dog really likes dogs on tv with his favorite being the car commercials
It really winds him up and makes him happy. After a while he instantly goes into alert when the commercial first begins

I have four dogs. The rest ignore the TV while one goes absolutely wild when he sees a dog. I watch a lot of youtube travel shows where the people have dogs so it’s usually very lively in my TV room.
Yesterday I tried to watch a classic Gunsmoke episode, and found he gets wild for horses too!

Not only hilarious but a little bit scary. The dog upset at the Lion King's death and the dog exercising along with the dog on TV illustrate that our animals are incredibly sentient and require a lot of care regarding their emotional well-being.
That said, most people I know who have pets provide such care in abundance.
It's the other animals, the ones who don't have parents, that I worry about. I think we have underestimated just how bright and sensitive they are.

Hrafi enjoys my history and archeology shows.
He’s a smart pooch.
I had DogTV for him for a month and he was not impressed at all.
/i watched it instead

My 15lb. Shnoodle (Shnauzer/toy poodle mix) is in love with Eddie, the Jack Russell terrier on “Fraser”. She darts up to the big screen whenever Eddie is on screen. Sometimes even when the opening music plays.

Indeed. And poorly written. It seems to have been translated from another language. Or written by a chatbot.

I have been reading lately that its a bad idea to expose children under 11 or so to tv and movies because it directly manipulates their emotions.

Until the advent of HDTV, animals could only really see static scanning on tv. Now they can see the image, and some are rattled by it.
