“Harpo Speaks”
That a u boat
It’s a nata my boat
Fun fact: In the 1970s, when Zeppo was in his late 70s, his wife Barbara, who was much younger then him and some would call a “gold digger”, dumped Zeppo and married Frank Sinatra. She was Sinatra’s longest marriage and was his widow. Zeppo was quite wealthy, much better with money than the other Marx Brothers, but Sinatra obviously was much wealthier and a better “catch”. Zeppo died a few years later, broken hearted and alone. This is all detailed in Barbara’s autobiography “Lady Blue Eyes”.
Zeppo introduced Jack Benny to his future wife Mary Livingstone (real name Sadie Marx, no relation to the Brothers) when Benny and the Marx’s were all in vauedeville in the early 1920s I believe.
Zeppo was the youngest brother and the last to die, in 1979.
The story of Groucho and his final companion, the young Erin Fleming, is also interesting and sad. She helped revive his career in the 1970s, but was later accused of elder abuse. And Groucho’s estate was tied up in court for years.
Most the Brothers were married several times and sometimes estranged from their children. The exception I believe was Harpo who had a pretty stable domestic life.
The (five) Marx Brothers are a fascinating entertainment story, made more interesting by the family dynamics.
SAdie Marx (Mary Livingstone) was their cousin.
Especially Chico.
That one’s also excellent.
Anobilel jsut passed away.
