I’m 73 and take my Ladyfriend to a massive indoor mall with 2 half-mile mezzanines to walk in the Winter, and hot Summers, or just inclement days. I always CCW, as well.

One of our siblings lives in an area of tough springs, falls, hot summers and in between.

She and some of her peers worked a deal with the management of a big mall near them. They buy a pass to the mall quarterly and wear the furnished pass. They are allowed to bring a single guest once a month. They walk from 6 am to 8:30 am.

” Vitamin D/sunshine is the only effective medication for depression and it is a powerful one. “

Vitamin D (up to 10,000 IU / day) had no effect whatsoever on my depression.

Good idea; smart move.
The jigundo mall here is 90% empty; all but 2 of the massive anchor stores left. But a huge Hollywood Casino took over almost half the place. The once-spectacular mall’s just glad for the foot traffic. During the Holidays, it’s packed. They have benches and a Food Court for taking rests along the laps we do.

What I said still stands. What is the only one doesn’t necessarily work for everyone. I have seen positive results with many people now, though. My daughter fifteen years ago started taking it and getting sun more and her seemingly permanent depression disappeared. She quit taking the antidepressants that just kept her emotionless.

I have it.

We moved south for a while and now the wife doesn't ever want to move back north. She says I'm a much better person during the winters down here.

I am a morning person and appreciate the extra hour of sunlight in the morning. I do all my walks and exercises early in the day. With the shift of DST I would be grumpy if I was a late night person..

Basically most of Northern California is in a drought condition, and we are having our first real rainy season.

Most of us are welcoming it. One of our 50 something DNA guy has resigned from his intense job of 50-60 hours per week to enjoy the holidays from now until the first of Jan.

My wife texted him earlier to see how he was doing being semi retired in the rain. He was a little depressed re the rain

My wife switched off from her concerned mother role into Nurse Ratchet Role. She told him to put on his gore tex and go for a walk in the rain with his dog and pretend he was back living in Portland, which he did for 20 winters.

She basically told a whining female friend this morning the same POA.

Living in central Illinois, this time of year the weather can go downhill quickly for weeks at a time. When it is cold, damp and no sunshine I don't have a lot of motivation to get out for walks. I have to force myself to do it and have the foul weather gear to do it...

“How folks in the north survive is remarkable. Don’t believe
this could possibly be tolerated. Look forward to springtime.”

My wife is from Northern Illinois about 3 hours west from Chicago.

Basically, she and her siblings/cousins grew up not knowing there were alternatives.

Later all of her siblings, most of her cousins and friends became snowbirds. Before Covid, they would head to Floriduh or Arizona until about Easter and then come back home.

They are back into SnowBirding for this winter.

My dad was from N.D. moving to Texas when he married my mom.
Every summer we’d drive to ND and Minn., one year even Chicago, to visit his siblings, Mom/Dad.
One year we drove up in winter for my grandmother’s funeral.
That was enough for me. Took months for the joints to work
properly again. And this was the frame of a young teenager. Many of his siblings would travel to Florida,
Arizona in the winter. Sigh, all are now gone and their children have moved further south, one state being Arizona.
And time marches on changing everything.
