First heard it in T. Bone Burnett's fantastic collection of American primitive music from the 2000 film, O Brother, Where Art Thou, one of my lifetime's favorite movies and soundtracks (in spite of the miscasting of George Clooney—should have been Jason Lee, Billy Bob Thornton or Dennis Quaid).
It has a faster tempo in the film; but also the work of Allison Kraus. Looks like V K Lee's version with its excellent old-time river baptism photos is also using the soundtrack version. Here's the clip from the film:
