We have one neighbor besides us, who gets the Sunday paper delivered. That is 2 homes out of 20 homes on this culdesac.
He is a local dentist. He and his wife were both born in this area and went to the same colleges. Their adult kids were born here and grew up, got married here and have their own kids, here now.
He jokes that the Obits, who were clients, gets to a certain level. He will retire and turn his clients over to her.
One retired Dentist on this street closed his local dental office when 50% of his patients had died or moved. So, he closed his practice and stopped buying the local fishwrap, when that happened.
What really killed them was Craigslist. All those mini classifieds added up. Craigslist killed that.
You can’t even train puppies on them anymore without making a mess on the floor.
;-)
We use “Creative Loafing” for that because they free.
I have a giant roll of brown paper for that. Not sure where/when I got it, it’s been around for at least 20 years.
We do have a subscription to the Atlanta Urinal-Constipation. My wife demands it for the Sunday crosswords. Plus when she was still in business, she’d watch for clients in the obits. If it was up to me I wouldn’t give them a penny.
The official portrait of former Georgia Governor Lester Maddox that hangs in the state capitol includes some fish wrapped in the Atlanta Constitution (it was separate from the Journal then) sitting on a table next to the governor. Strangely, I can’t seem to find that image online . . .
Two words... Puppy Pads
I do Sunday crosswords from the New York Times, but I definitely don’t have a subscription. I buy books containing anywhere from 50 to 500 of the things.
“Our local paper was reduced in number of pages, overall dimensions and font size, making it practically unread able for my elderly mom’s eyes, and this was years ago”
A decade plus ago, I got the flexible lens implant for both eyes.
As result, I don’t need reading glasses for my computer, books, phone, Kindles and most print on 8.5 X 11 inch paper.
Recently, my wife’s expensive paper went through a down sizing re getting very narrow. Now, I can’t read the comics nor editorials without reading glasses, so I don’t.
What is interesting, after the increased costs and smaller size, everyone now gets a free newspaper in the mail, on Wednesday. I told my wife, there is nothing free. She is now paying for someone’s free fishwrap that gets thrown away.
for delivery of 4 days a week!
That's for Florida Today in north Brevard County,FL.
Our old stompin grounds for 24 years.
I accidentally looked at the price of a Seattle Times news rack paper edition a year or so ago and remember being shocked.
I think it was $3.50.
I also recall being shocked at their annual price for an online subscription around the same time period, but I cannot recall the exact amount.
I do not support our far lefty rag.
But have seen it and it is pricey and “compact”.
Some of the lightweight thinkers here believe that the paper is shrinking because of the internet.
But the truth is that we reject propaganda.
Been here for 53 yrs. 2 more years then gettin the helloutta FL!
Guilty as charged. Or even to click the link you supplied.
Our local newspaper, the Rockford Register Star, has a 6 month e-subscription of $1.00-That’s right, $1.00.
I don’t know what their print price per copy is, or print copy subscription.
I haven’t read it in decades.

I get all the news I need right here🙂👍
The local fishwrap went to 3 days a week years ago, without lowering the price. At the same time they were taken over by one of the leftist chains - went from a reasonably balanced news source to leftist crap overnight. So I canceled and haven’t looked back. Couldn’t tell you what it looks like today.
You can also find a picture of him burning the newspaper.
Luoisville Courier Journal. Subscription: $23.00.
Newspapers are great and a fun way to start the morning... well, they used to be fun.
And used to be great.
But years ago editors decided to write for each other and to write for ‘prizes’ and to represent the interest of ‘elites’ and they all became ‘CNN’ stupid and boring.
