••Some changes over the traditional way of deploying artillery systems: using Starlinks for decentralized internet communication, dispersed batteries, and using a UA developed artillery communication app.
••The traditional way before recent modernizations took only a few minutes to observe, communicate, and fire. Now there are many other factors to contend with and the whole process slowed way down.
••The new UA firing system gets back to the quick solutions and uses guided rounds, helping to ensure target hits. Dispersal means that the whole battery can no longer be taken out by counter fire. The use of Starlinks does away with or minimizes signal jamming.
••Core Elements:
••The app, GIS ARTA, means fast support. Both the app and Starlink feature very simple interface.

WiU commenter: M109A6 Paladin units are basically immune to counter-battery because they can stop and fire within less than a minute, so there’s little reason to stick around and wait for counter-battery fire to arrive and they can move out again almost immediately after firing. The caliber is the length of the barrel divided by the diameter of the projectile. We would use the designation L/52 to mean 52 caliber. So the M109A6 L/39 advantage is that it does not have to be emplaced to fire as accurately as other SP guns fire when emplaced.
The M109 simply halts and the computer orients it such that within 30 seconds of halting the M109 shoots and then immediately moves. I think the M109A6 will be used in areas where there is an accurate Russian counter-fire because even if the counter-fire is on the way before the M109 shell hits the target the M109 is already gone. By the way, there is an M109A7 L/58 which is extremely accurate to 40 km.

Summary:
Ukrainian forces are retreating from Lyman bridgehead after losing control over town Lyman. Ukrainian troops are attacking Russian troops near village Davydiv Brid (Kherson bridgehead) and managed to advance to village Bruskynske, 10 km to south-east of Davydiv Brid.
The fighting is still going on, and Russian troops failed to cut off this breakthrough and encircle attacking Ukrainian troops, and retreated to village Kostromka. Russian troops are getting reinforcements for new counter-attack. Situation is extremely difficult for Ukrainian army in the Severodonetsk salient.
However, it looks more and more like a stalemate there with Ukrainian troops being able to launch small-scale counter-attack and took full control of village Nagirne.

2. Izyum bridgehead. It is extremely dangerous penetration by Russian troops that potentially could lead to large pocket for Ukrainian troops west of Donetsk. Many Russian units from there were transferred to a salient near Popasna to exploit initial successes of Russian troops there. No changes today.
3. Lyman bridgehead. Only Svyatohirsk remains under Ukrainian control. Ukrainian troops are in process of retreating from Lyman bridgehead after loss of town of Lyman.

5. Severodonetsk - slow squeeze of Ukrainian troops, main bridge connecting UA troops with the rest of UA is destroyed yesterday by RU artillery. Russian troops penetrated into town near central bus station and hotel “Myr” (Peace/World).

11. Kherson bridgehead: Ukrainian army attacked from area near Davydiv Brid, pushed into Russian defenses till village Bruskynske (controlled by Ukrainian army). Russian troops failed in their attempt to counter-attack and cut off Ukrainian forces.
However, Ukrainian troops were stopped in Bruskynske by Russian artillery fire and air attacks.
Russian troops retreated to village Kostromka and regrouping their for a new counter-attack.

739/1200 = 61% of the tanks they invaded with. Real number may be closer to 75%. No wonder they are pulling T-62’s out of mothballs to try to reconstitute broken battalions. I believe what we are seeing now in a frontal assault on the last Ukrainian pockets in the Donbas is a desperate final attempt to “win” the war. Of course it takes your enemy agreeing to lay down his arms to actually win. Next month many Russian soldiers on 90 day contract for this special military operation will be seeing their contracts expire. How many will reup? This is the equivalent of the German Battle of the Bulge. It is now or never for the Russians to break the will of the Ukrainian resistance. From here on out the Ukrainians get better equipped. The only question is do they have the manpower and morale to carry on the fight. If they do they will probably “win” this war. Certainly they will retain the right to join Nato which is the huge strategic defeat Putin was trying to avoid.

Ukraine has claimed some success in its offensive in the south, which began during the weekend. The General Staff said, "the enemy suffered losses and withdrew from the village of Mykolaivka, Kherson region, which led to panic among servicemen of other units of the armed forces of the Russian Federation."
If Russian forces have withdrawn from Mykolaivka, it would represent a gain of several kilometers for Ukrainian units.
Mykolaivka sits near one of the two major river crossings for the lower Dnipro. This now means any transit must come from Kherson and potentially puts Kherson at risk of being cut off.
This amounts to a push of 30+ km in a week by UKR forces.

I’m coming to the opinion that tank losses are not a telling metric for the progress of this war because they are such sitting ducks. and they need to be close range.
rather the guns that are doing the real damage to the uks is the longer range massed artillery.

You can strike Russia with a thrown rock. That is an idiotic statement when all of Ukraine’s current artillery can strike Russia up to 70km from the border and are doing so as we speak in the Krusk-Sumy region north of Kharkov (the Orcs fire back - its a ping pong artillery duel).
