Yes. The guy I mentioned (that I know, btw, not just some yahoo talking to me on the internet) ran it all via his phone providing the wifi. Unlimited phone cell network data > hotspot > wifi > home devices. Said it saved him a boatload of money.

Range depends on frequency not on 5G versus 4G.
5g requires several orders of magnitude more cell towers. Per Verizon: 5G Tower Range. In general, the 5G Ultra Wideband network’s signal can reach up to 1,500 feet without obstructions.
Serviceable 4g is generally 4 to 5 miles.
It will be quite some time before you'll see 5g towers along rural roads every half-mile or so.
