We'll get some immunity but it won't be total. We'll get hit by then next variant. How severe will it be? No one knows.

That said. It should be up to everyone to proceed with their lives, understanding that if you are older than 65, you are at a higher risk. That's just the way it goes.

Way back in the day when I worked with large quantities of explosives in the desert, we wore the required safety boots, and other than that we wore PT shorts. And that’s it. Dog tags in both our boots so body parts could be identified. Nobody pumped sunshine up our asses that if we wore silly hats or something the danger would be less. So we wore shorts and worked on our tans while we worked around a few thousand tons of HE. Protective equipment was pointless. As it is now. Stick dog tags in your boots, and carry on.

Stumps. We had an expeditionary bomb dump out way away from the airfield at Camp Wilson. Set up our own camp next to the dump with squad tents so it was a short walk to the dump. Expeditionary dump had nothing but some sand revetments for explosives segregation, and no shade. And nobody but nobody came out to bother us except the Chaplain on daily visits to bring by ice water and stuff. So without adult supervision save our SNCO’s who didn’t give a damn so long as the frags got built, we wore safety boots, PT shorts, and heavy leather gloves because bomb casings get really stinking hot in the SoCal desert sun. My girlfriend really dug my sun bleached hair, deep tan, and all the water weight I’d lost when I got back. :)

We had camo netting up on our squad tents for better shade, and we were about 200 meters from the attack helo LZ, between us and the dump. One night, a Cobra tried to land on our squad tent. Nobody hurt but the tents and all our crap went everywhere before we managed to wave him off with flashlights. It’s a really good thing he didn’t go the other way and try to land on a stack of Mk 82’s....

When Covid first broke they warned that it would kill 2.5 million people in America in the first six months. It took two years to not reach 2 million. Never mind all the inflated death statistics, even if all the deaths attributed had actually been caused by Covid, far higher is just not that frightening. The gravy train is leaving the station.
