They haven’t had a general strike in Canada
Oh well. If so, at least I had call to dredge up my recollection of European history courses from nearly a half century ago.
All we would have to do to prevail over govt mandates is “nothing”. Call in sick to work, stay home, don’t drive and don’t buy anything. Shut off the tv and read a book. If enough folks did this at the same time the regime would sh*t itself.
The sticking point is the “if enough” provision. As a practical matter, people have to gather in person in order to bolster their resolution and common purposes. That is why schools do best when they hold actual classes, churches have services in person, live music and theater performances rely on audiences in attendance, and politicians hold rallies and other meetings and mass events. Even in the union context, a mass call in sick is a poor substitute for a strike, rallies and marches, and picket lines.
I think that’s why the Canadian & US governments have been targeting the donations. Without those payments these truckers are going to lose their rigs. I don’t imagine that there are may company haulers involved among the demonstrators. Taking company property and exposing it to damage or government seizure (or both) would seem unlikely.
