Manufacturing moved offshore for a reason. You think a 20% price increase due to port traffic is bad, what do you think the price would be for goods manufactured here where every federal alphabet agency gets to rule, regulate, extort, or flat out harm manufacturers. Companies were willing to move back when Trump was around because they felt some protection from the federal scum. With dementia Joe at the helm I wouldn’t risk a single dollar of capital in this country.
You make an excellent point. Before Xi went over-the-top, I used to make the point that the problem was that there was more freedom in China than in Ohio.
That has changed in the last few years, but it is still the crux of the problem, and one Trump was trying to resolve. Carrot, reducing the regs and taxes to do business here, and stick, putting a tariff on anything coming from China. So that if companies didn’t repatriate, they might still find it in their interest to move from China to somewhere other than China.
Without Trump driving this, things will only get worse. And China will continue buying up American land and resources.
