Sharon Kay Penman wrote a historical fiction trilogy of books about that time period.

She has written many books set in the Plantagenet era of England. They are excellent!

Stephen was admired by many as was Matilda in fact

They simply couldn’t contain Geoffrey of Anjou and his various Norman supplicants who wished the throne
