I sat through the after-movie deconstruction of “The Searchers” as well, and all I could think was that they completely missed the point of the movie, the character of Ethan (an American version of the ronin, or Mifune-style samurai), how Scar is portrayed as Ethan’s moral equal, how the movie specifically distinguishes between the Noeki Commanche and other Native Americans (the way an honest movie today would distinguish between BLM thugs and African-Americans in general), how Debbie is not being murdered but euthanized—and all the moral questions surrounding euthanasia, etc. etc. etc.
