We get winter all the time in Edmonton, but we don’t get pileups like I see in the States.
And what I am saying is that ice storms in the south and Great Plains are an entirely different animal. I have spent years in the north with a great deal of snow (up to nearly 4’ in a day), and regularly drove through heavy snows and even blizzards, so I know what you are saying. Wet ice with no snow inclusions is very different - especially when it presents as just light rain...until you hit the ice.

That apparently translates to 1 vehicle length every 5 mph. Funny thing is, I adhere to the less conservative 1 vehicle length every 10 mph rule and just about everyone else is following far closer than that. I routinely see cars going 70 and following a vehicle length behind trucks. They must be Jayne Mansfield fans.
