Boy, that little exchange went nowhere. And BTW, you’re all misogynists—everyone! ;D
thanks muchly, Larry :)
I got interviewed by a Playboy reporter once. I don't know if he was on staff or a freelancer. This was a loooooong time ago and I won't try to recreate the conversation, but:
I was a very young, wet behind the ears staffer for a freshman Republican Member of Congress. My boss had a crummy apartment within walking distance of the House office buildings and I don't think he cooked much for himself, so he took a lot of meals at the Capitol Hill Club. This is the Republican club in DC right next to the RNC building, cattycorner from the Cannon House Office Building. The club had a perfectly fine beer and burgers style casual dining room downstairs and an ok but not fancy formal dining room upstairs. On any given weeknight, when they weren't home working their districts, you would find a pretty good selection of Republican congressmen, staffers, lobbyists, and other sociable people. It was a reasonably decent place with plenty of private meeting rooms, which were very heavily used for routine, non-fancy fundraisers. It probably still is an ok place, though I've not been there for years.
Anyhow, a Playboy reporter on assignment was working the room one evening. (I assume he had persuaded someone to bring him as a guest, although it's conceivable he had guest privileges from a reciprocal membership in a club back home, if Playboy sets its people up that way.) My boss was one of the people to whom he spoke and, since I was something of the office intellectual, my boss referred Mr. Playboy to me. He also relayed what Mr. Playboy wanted to talk about, so I was prepared when he came by the office a day or two later.
Mr. Playboy: (After an introduction and light chit chat): "I wanted to ask you why you think Republicans are so repressive."
Me: "I don't think that's the case at all. In fact, I would argue that the Democrats are the anti-freedom party. Take taxes. Surely you agree that people are entitled to the fruits of their labor and that taxation may be a necessary evil, but it is inherently oppressive. Lower taxes are always better ....
Mr. Playboy: "Well, that's interesting, but it's not quite what I had in mind."
Me: "Ok, well how about [insert your conservative/libertarian issue]." I had had time to think about it, so I had my list ready. I know I raised taxes and regulation, right to work, second amendment, probably right to life, and school choice. I can't remember the rest of the list; it was all topical back then, a long time ago. I had a solid list all teed up and ready to go.
Mr. Playboy gave up surprisingly quickly and ended the interview. I was disappointed because I was just getting warmed up and hadn't had time to damn the democrats for being incipient totalitarians. Then as now, the only freedoms in which the liberals are interested are complete sexual license and the ability to abuse drugs; on everything else, they are utterly contemptuous of individual liberty. I don't know if Mr. Playboy had the wits to connect the dots, but he got a earful. In retrospect, I probably was too aggressive and took over the conversation; he never did get around to asking about sex.
I had the notion of buying the magazine for the next few months to see if I got into print, but I didn't follow through. If anyone here remembers such an article, freepmail me; I will pretend to believe that you only read the magazine for the articles.
I have tremendous respect for Kayleigh — a true survivor.
Would best serve the Playboy punk to apologize.
Playboy died when Hef left Barbie Benton
Like when Pigpen died in the Grateful Dead
Or Bonzo in Led Zepplin
Some things just don’t recover
Playboy!?! That rag is still around? In the age of computer porn , that thing is still being published? Good God.
Wonderful anecdote! Thanks!
Thanks! Cool Story!
One damned fine looking woman.
I could not agree with you more. Plus she’s a solid Patriot that has a backbone, and quite intelligent.
That’s quite a contrast to the AOC that many, and I say many FReepers just fawn over. A little communist with a horse face, buck teeth, large thighs that wants to take us all down. To include writing down names.
I just do not understand this phenomenon. Loving a communist when there is a beautiful woman with smarts and a backbone with us.
Well, since neither of them are going to get in bed with me (and my wife would shoot all parties concerned with either her .357 or the shotgun if such did occur), it’s about as academic as anything could be.
Even AOC, I will give her this: she got off her ass, ran a campaign, and got elected. How many folks - all across the political spectrum - can barely be bothered to vote, or phone bank/walk precincts? I see people bitch and gripe about her who probably have never even participated in a campaign for a candidate. I have a grudging respect for some politicians whose views I find reprehensible because I think they are actually trying to do what they think right, even if their head is up their ass. Not that I don’t think AOC would turn into a Lenin with boobs given the chance.
