That’s a good point. It’s a bastardization of a nice term. C. S. Lewis also pointed out how the lovely word charity had been changed to mean a hand-out.

My step-daughter was in the military a few years ago and indeed the language has all been changed. They’re much more gentle now and you can get through Basic Training and still have your baby fat.

Gosh, that’s one definition I hadn’t heard of. Then again, dirt is only slightly older than I am, so maybe that explains it .... :-)

I did read some time back on Ann Barnhardt’s website that the original meaning of “nice” was something along the lines of “stupid”, which I thought was beyond odd.
