The article is incorrect to say if you have a common cold you will automatically test positive. Though if you have a common cold it's much more likely you will get a false positive.

Common cold coronavirus antibody can be HgM. There are a number of common colds none are HgG antibodies. HgG is tested after you ever had herpes(example)
The Covid-19 tests for HgM AND HgG. Nothing elaborate about the test. Yes it will give a lot of False positives.

You should never look at the “change in total number”. That just reflects how many more were added to the list.

You want to re-run the graph of “numbers over time” — a lot of times, we are adding numbers for up to 3 weeks ago, and they do not reflect what is happening today.

Virginia is really good at that, most all of their graphs are dated based on “presumed infection (for cases), test-run-date (for testing), day of admittance (for hospitalization, and day-of-death (for deaths).

I watch those and the raw numbers, and they are quite different.
