In this great self-governed Constitutional Republic, you should be free to wear a mask if you so choose - that is what Liberty is all about. I will die to defend your right to wear a mask and stay 6’ away from people.

But you could have simply chosen to wear a mask yourself, and avoid crowded places without the need of having Democrat Governors order others to shut down our businesses. You could have just stayed away from my store if you thought it was safer - you didn’t need to support Democrats FORCING me to shut it down.

Where is my freedom to NOT wear a mask and not to shut down my business? Will you die to defend that?

No. Because you are a fake conservative that does not value individual Liberty, and would rather trust and obey the authority of the state than trust individuals to run their own lives.

You have more in common with the Loyalists during the American Revolution who thought patriots were reckless and dangerous for rebelling against the British crown. I guess they all moved to Canada like today’s liberals (or at least threatened to).

And don’t call yourself a conservative if you believe the government has the authority to restrain trade “for our own good”.

Tariffs (impost) are codified in the US Constitution, in case you care to learn anything...

"Several provisions in the Constitution contain terms referring to financial exactions. For example, Article I, § 8, cl. 1 authorizes Congress to “lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises.” Article I, § 9, cl. 5 states that “No Tax or Duty shall be laid on Articles exported from any State.” Section 10, cl. 3 of the same Article refers to “any Duty of Tonnage.”

“...in case you care to learn anything...”

I’ll let the snide remark pass this one time :-)

Look, I realize we need some government - some laws - some regulation. I’m not advocating anarchy, and neither were the Founders.

For example, if we didn’t restrict driving to one side of the road, nobody would be free to drive. So, laws and regulations, when applied intelligently and for the right reasons, can actually promote freedom.

It is a matter of degree and application whether a law or regulation advances freedom more than it limits it.

That’s why we need reasoned debate - these things are debatable. It’s also need to be suspicious of and vigilant against an overreaching State authority.

I like Trump’s tariffs.

When it comes to this Covid19 response, I think the mistake was lack of flexibility in light of new information. After a month or so, it became obvious to most that the worst case scenarios were not unfolding.

The shutdowns should have been adjusted accordingly - but by then, the whole thing had become hopelessly fear-mongered and politicized. The Democrat governors simply have no incentive to allow Trump’s pre-election economy to flourish, if they can possibly do anything to prevent it.

Anyone who doesn’t see that this virus was fear-mongered by the Left is blind as a bat.

I’m all for people wearing masks and staying away from public gatherings if they feel safer. But just as with freedom of speech - freedom of assembly is protected by the Constitution - or at least it was supposed to be.

Localized curfews to quell riots and other unlawful behavior - incarceration of dangerous criminals - that kind of limitation of freedom is easily justified because it promotes the overall freedom of law abiding citizens.

But the forced shuttering of businesses and law abiding citizens for MONTHS - that was I’ll conceived. And the quickness of self-proclaimed “conservatives“ to comply to State authority was just staggering.

Marxists everywhere are saying “Wow. This is going to be easier than we thought! Just scare the shit out of them and they will go wherever we herd them, and bleat like sheep!”.

The lock down and shutdown was stupid which has nothing to do with the validity of import tariffs.

“The lock down and shutdown was stupid which has nothing to do with the validity of import tariffs.“

I’m not the one who brought up import tariffs - it was the other poster. And when it did come up, I supported their validity.

Not sure what your beef is

That's much better. If anyone is prevented from wearing masks, then doctors and nurses in hospitals should be forbidden from wearing them, too.

"But you could have simply chosen to wear a mask yourself, and avoid crowded places without the need of having Democrat Governors order others to shut down our businesses."

I did and am certainly against closing businesses or prohibiting outdoor activities.

Sounds like we are on the same page then - sorry I snapped at you.

Sometimes it’s hard to tell where people are coming from without the facial expressions, tone of voice, etc..

I thought you were saying the article was wrong, and that we should comply with the orders.
