OMG a real live brain surgeon.

And yet: You loose!

Minus five points.

Just kidding. I'm impressed. Sometimes 'appeal to authority' is just displaying knowledge gained from expertise. Don't let nobody play that one on you.

That's what's so cool about FR. There are so many different 'experts in the field' that you can usually find the answer to anything.

Thanks for sharing your expertise.

It just occurred to me folks would have questions. As a fellow freeper I’d like to try to help.

If you want to talk Neurosurgerry I’d love to. I have had nothing to do with it for 30 years but I know the history pretty well.

There was also the thread (yesterday?) that talked about higher loads received may correlate to more severe symptoms.

See 61 and link.

Just restating what I posted above with references, I suspect. I think all doctors are “aware” even though there are no specific “classes”, you just figure it out from all the classes you do have to take. Since a lot of the research is “proprietary” a lot of public discussions of this stuff has not been a priority. Until now.

In any case, the question the public should consider when wishing to wear a mask is, “What is your goal? Why do you want to wear a mask?” Because if the answer is,”So I don’t spread it to others”, then literally any fabric hanging over your face will suffice. Something to catch the virus laden droplets and aerosols you exhale. A bandana, a surgical mask, just about anything. Since most people are not that philanthropic as a priority if you want to protect yourself it must really be a “respirator”. Again which will be used outside it’s intended purpose. Sort of “off label”. The failure rate will be high.

Oddly, I just read a similar article on how many of different bacterial strains it takes to start an infection. I don't remember the names of the bacteria, but it was in many cases a couple of hundred or so, more in other cases. I don't remember where I saw the article, or how long ago, but believe it was within the last year.

I've also read recently that infectious bacteria tend to "seek each other out", whatever that means and by whatever mechanism.

In recent decades it has been learned that how bacteria “live” contributes to their resistance to elimination. Many produce a “slime” that was thought to protect “The Bacterium”. Then they realized these things can live in “colonies” where the entire colony is covered making penetration of this slime layer an obstacle to be overcome when trying to present a single bacterium with drugs or sterilizing agents. So, yeah, they “stick together.”

How did it arise that N-95 masks are sold for construction / contractor use, if you know? (Thanks)

Remember in the 70s we hadn’t really learned yet that asbestos caused mesothelioma which is a specific kind of lung cancer.

I remember as a Junior Neurosurgery Resident I admitted a guy with mesothelioma who had worked as a guy who sewed fireproof gloves for 30 years. We had a sort of epidemic as ship workers (Steve McQueen) who had been exposed to asbestos years before began to get it. Asbestos fibers are less than 5 microns.

Well, I guess that’s it for today. I have to say, I was a little reluctant to do this because I thought I might get swamped.

It will be interesting to see what Medical Publication will present this study to the world bearing it’s imprimatur of integrity. Some how I can’t help but think a breathless email to the world ain’t gonna do the trick.

Interesting at a glance. This is a “preprint” not yet accepted for publication. So you are accepting everything there “on faith”. This is a “bench study” meaning no actual humans were involved. Since it’s not a “Clinical Outcomes” it would take me hours to digest this paper. I quit doing research 30 years ago.

But I suppose it is possible a number of conventional antibiotics could have “in vitro” activity. What we need now is something that changes outcomes. This French Group seems to claim they have found the miracle cure. People who provide miracle cures to patients everyday seem to be a bit hesitant on “accepting the French at their word”. I can’t say why but I know why I don’t “trust” some people. (Just assuming if they had a great rep for integrity the world would jump on it. But they aren’t)
