They’ve succeeded.

Panic. Hysteria.

The totalitarian’s tool.

It’s a truly sad day.

We just got back from the Market Basket supermarket in Hudson, N.H. and it was interesting, to say the least.

We got there at 6:40 a.m. and there were already people in the aisles. But there were no eggs, no milk (some was stocked an hour later) and most of the pasta was gone except for lasagna and small soup-ingredient pasta. The only potatoes left were reds, though I found a few bags of Russets in a St. Patrick’s Day promo display, and the celery was gone. Bread and canned goods were hit hard, especially canned soup, and the water aisle was cleaned out. Beef and chicken were scarce.

The shoppers were in a good mood, for the most part, and people laughed at the madness of the panic buying. By the time we checked out, around 8:30 a.m., the lines were backed up to the rear of the store and all registers were running.

It’s threads like this that is fueling the hype.

People who have to be the first to show everyone the craziness are just as guilty as the media.

Settle down.

Go fishing or hiking.

God’s grace is more than sufficient.

Flame away.

Kitsap county Wa. If it’s bad anywhere, I haven’t seen it. Costco has been good overall with no shortages. Other major markets good as well. Lines at usual times similar to super bowl etc. but normal the majority of the time.

Hell..you can make anything including egg noodle if you’ve the mind and gumption.

Lazy and worthless...

I’m in San Jose. I’ve heard Costco has been crazy so I’ve avoided.

Hubby and I went to Trader Joe’s on Tuesday and it was crowded and I told him we need to avoid it.

Our local Lucky’s has been great. I went at 10 am and it wasn’t crowded and they had full aisle of TP and unstocking more.

Lucky’s still had rice and beans and soups.

The only thing I can’t find is hand sanitizer and some cleaning supplies.

The Common Core Zombies of the Apocalypse are raiding the stores. It will likely ebb when their pantries and refrigerators/freezers become full.

At one of the stores I go to, the bottled water was gone (the zombies apparently think the municipal water supply will cease operation soon).

How do you spend six to $800 at a grocery store, the most I’ve ever managed is typically under $200. I did go to the store this morning early or Walmart here opened at six, and was already packed before I left. My cost about 140 to restock some items in our pantry.

DH was looking for basic Kleenex at Walmart (Lenoir City, TN) this morning and was joking to the stock person that the TP section was empty. He told DH people were lined up on Wednesday night when the TP truck came, and they were taking it right off the truck and into their carts. WTF?

Saw this coming two-three weeks ago. We topped off all our normal hurricane supplies/prep stuff: TP, paper towels, body soap, personal grooming supplies, general household cleaning supplies, laundry soap/bleach, OTC meds, vitamins, script meds as much as legally possible, batteries, non-perishable foods, perishables that could be frozen along with plenty of diesel and gas etc....about $500+ worth by the time we were done.
Then, 3 days ago, stocked up on food perishables that can’t be frozen such as fresh eggs, fruit, veggies, etc.
It’s not the lack of products or even the virus that scares us. Sure, we’re concerned like everyone else, but it’s the hordes of panicked people and the crazy crap that they will do. It can escalate and get hairy quite quickly. We’ve seen past examples of it when big hurricanes ripped thru the region...let’s just say they ain’t real “polite”. We’re not going anywhere near a store or a large metropolitan area for awhile. No thanks, we’ll just stick it out right here in the woods.

Same in north Raleigh. They posted this on Facebook:

Harris Teeter is committed to providing an Incredible Place to Work and Shop. To focus on cleaning, replenishment, and the well-being of our valued associates, we will close our stores at 9 p.m. each night, effective Sunday, March 15, until further notice.

Walmart in rural SW PA.

Most crowded I've seen but polite, homogeneous crowd, if you know what I mean.

No chicken, tp, paper towels, dust masks, gloves or alcohol.

Everything else was good.

The President put through an emergency proclamation. The feds have authority to suspend the trucking hours of service regs for commercial drivers serving disaster/emergency relief. That will help supplies and provisions keep moving.

Giant & Weis markets picked over pretty well. Staff is tired but in great spirits, folks in the aisles friendly, patient.

I’m stocked but went to buy more a few ingredients I was missing (going to spend the day cooking up a lot of the stuff I’ve bought over time and freezing it).

Beer store running low on popular brands (bought the last two Yeungling lights).

Went to the tobacco store to cash some scratch-offs, lot of empty shelves.

Just got back from Sams Club, Fridley MN. Arrived 1 min after opening and lot was packed, however inside was not crowded.....yet. Within 15 minutes it was like Black Friday.
Entire paper section was empty except for napkins.
Meat section was nearly empty as well except for a few big tubes of burger and ribs.
Canned meats were gone except for tuna.

The only tortillas left were a few high fiber and whole wheat. Zero pasta left.

Liquor store had lots of Old Mil 30 packs. Bought 4 =)

Our large super market (Wegmans, Upstate NY) has been well stocked until yesterday. There were shortages of cheese and many fresh vegetables and fruit and minimal choices for bread and pasta.

These are normally 24 hr stores but the company said yesterday that they would close from midnight until 6 am each night to clean and restock. A friend went at 6 am and said there were still lots of empty shelves. My daughter went about 9 and things were better. I suspect it will take some time to handle the increased demand.
