“The china flu is not the bad guy here. Its the hype surrounding it causing fear and panic.”
Agree - and the hype is SO BAD that even the ‘hypers’, the Chinese, are buying it!
So can you please tell us in a nutshell what you think. It would be much appreciated!
This article is from Feb 20..that’s an eternity ago in covid terms.
I got a flu shot exactly once in my life...and got the flu. That was the only time for both. Never again.
Where I work, transporting people to and from hospitals, rehab and nursing homes to doctor appointments and elsewhere, the concern is where it’s always been, flu.
Hard data says flu is the big concern. Hype and panic says corona virus is the big concern.
I go with the hard data, dismiss panic, and behave accordingly.
I take the normal hygienic precautions.
Follow any precautions given by medical staff, which occasionally includes gowning up and wear gloves. Although that’s usually for infectious disease cases which have nothing to do with flu.
Limit actual physical contact as much as possible. Although I am in close proximity with a half dozen or more patients each day inside the vehicle for anywhere between 15 minutes or longer I don’t wear a mask and I try not to touch them. Although many need help with a seat belt, or if they are in a wheelchair I need to reach over them to secure them and the chair.
Wash hands, especially around the fingernails, between fingers, and wrists, with warm water and soap.
Use hand sanitizer often during the day.
Keep mental tabs of any patient contact and wash or sanitize carefully afterwards.
This has kept me safe for 7 years now. Maybe tomorrow it will be different, but the track record is pretty good, including transports of people who, unknown to me at the time (and I’m sure them too), actually had the flu.
I may be transporting people who, unknowingly, have Corona, who knows.
I’m careful and always use common sense before, during, and after transports.
Corona hasn’t even made a blip at the places I go to, and I visit easily a hundred different places, each many times, over the course of a year.
Six weeks from now the Corona cheerleaders will be talking about something else.
Worry about the flu and act accordingly, it will serve you well for both problems.
And the virus we have learned to live with...so far, after being in the wild for for the worst part of the Flu season (... the fall officially marks the beginning of the flu season, since cases of the flu start to rise in October, peak between December and February, and usually taper off around May) the corona virus has infected about 1/300th of the folks the Flu infects in the US alone - and that’s counting worldwide stats for the coronavirus.
