*bump*
Think of the world of 1973, and consider...The killing fields of Cambodia were still fresh in everyones mind.
In an otherwise great article about a great man (if only Kerensky had the same guts!), this glaring error sticks out. The Khmer Rouge didnt take over and begin massacres until 1975. Unfortunately, inaccuracies of this type can discredit otherwise great works.
“Think of the world of 1973, . . . . The killing fields of Cambodia were still fresh in everyones mind... “
Uh, no, the killing fields had yet to occur.
Some years ago ago I had the opportunity to read a historical account of what Pinochet accomplished. The Chilean people owe the man a debt of gratitude for what he did for the country. Of course, the Leftists would never agree with that assessment and continue to this day to hate him.
The woketards at my son’s high school were teaching that Pinochet was a bad guy a few years ago.
Probably still are.
Humankind has this amazing abilty to lapse into socialism, failure after failure, generation after generation. We could come back to this planet 1000 years from now and there will still be be a Chavez, Ocasio Cortez or Sanders chasing that same empty utopian redistribution dream. Look at Chile, 45 years of success after Pinochet recued the country from communist socialist Allende who drove it into poverty and created the most economically successful nation in Latin America with a constitution and free markets. Now their unions and young people are out in the streets wanting to pursue the socialist dream.Socialists have no sense of history.
Made my otherwise depressing morning.
I saved a copy.
The commies at Wikipedia have this blurb:
Pinochet assumed power in Chile following a United States-backed coup d'état on 11 September 1973 that overthrew the democratically elected socialist Unidad Popular government of President Salvador Allende and ended civilian rule.
Thank you for restating the facts.
The US had no clue of the Chilean coup until it was already underway. The CIA was too busy with its own ops, like supporting a truckers’ strike.
“the savior of Argentine sovereignty and culture”
You meant Chile, right?
I retract my comment and apologize.
That’s the best answer ever lol.
Humberto Fontova has written a good deal on that subject and the why Pinochet deposed Allende...Allende with Cuban help was planning a “Katyn Forest” type solution for Pinochet and his anti-communist officer corps...So Pinochet got proactive...
Search online “Humberto Fontova on Pinochet”...
I remember in my shortwave-listening days, Radio Moscow use to beam a special Spanish-Language program called, “Escucha Chile!” (Listen, Chile!) specifically for listeners in Chile.
LOL!
Viva Pinochet!
I completely agree. And the same goes for Franco. I would contend that in both cases, the citizens at the time of their rule, regarded them in a much more positive light than outsiders did then and now. Read history texts penned by Spanish writers and they generally have a balanced view of Franco.
And lets not forget who the Democrats backed in those days. The Communists. Just like they backed the Sandinistas. Just like further back, the Hollyweird left, and traitors in my estimation, fought against the Franco forces in the 1930s. Remember who they fought FOR. They can call themselves Republican forces, but they fought at the pleasure and for the Commintern, assembled by the Soviets.
These are the same Democrats who NOW say they do now and have always opposed Russia! Yeah, sure.
