Saw a video of a fully dressed mariachi band wading across the Rio Grande for a performance. The whole border used to be like that - like crossing the street.
When I worked in Starr County back in 2007 there was no respect for the border that I could see. It was not like an alien place that whites were not welcome it was in fact both of those things. After one well I quickly decided we would not operate there. The only way to survive long term was a steady stream of kick backs and protection payments.
I only thought it was bad in the Corpus Christi region.

I am sory , but I don’t. I thought it was the Imperial Valley, but it looks a lot like this site in nearby Yuma (it might be for the Yuma/San Luis segments):
