I alway enjoy reading an Opinion piece by Michael Goodwin. His writing is clear and and his point of view is direct. The recent NY Post opinion is an excellent example of a great journalist at work. I do, however, disagree with the sentence quoted above. The Left has been a bastion of anti-semitism ever since Israel defeated the combined Arab armies in 1967 and took back much of what the UN originally intended to be part of that country. Once Israel no longer was the underdog, and once its Labour government was voted out, the Left turned on Israel. From there is was but a short step for the Left to transfer its hatred of Israel to Jews, in general. Thus, unlike Goodwin’s comment, the Democrats are not afraid of the “shocking anti-Israel sentiment on the left.” Rather, they are afraid that with this hatred out in the open, Jewish voters will be repulsed.

Agreed. So I think Trump speaking out against it was a mistake. When it continues it'll look like he can't control his base. He should have just left it alone.

I think that's what Goodwin means...that the Left is afraid its deep-seated anti-Semitism will be exposed to its own Jewish supporters.

That said, I wonder how many Jews on the left are not themselves self-hating anti-Semites (like George Soros).
