Is it private property or is it BLM or state?
If its her property I would tell them to stay off.The property is private. So dont trespass.
If she is leasing the property from the government she can do nothing.Afterall theyre the property owners.
Private property.
My dad just died last year.
I think they probably targeted her because she’s a new 80yr old widow.
Make sure it really is the USDA first.
And, this is the official site for the survey in question:
https://www.nrcs.usda.gov/wps/portal/nrcs/detail/national/technical/nra/ceap/na/?cid=nrcs143_014159
Their ‘affiliates’ include (dun dun dun):
“State of the Nation’s Ecosystems offsite link image by The Heinz Center is an important effort to develop indicators for ecological values of what they call grasslands and shrublands.”
It is the USDA, there’s an official website for this stuff.
Your friendly gov worker will happily tell you the legal basis for their entry if you ask them. There may be something in place contractually that your Dad set up with the Feds that your Mom is unaware of. If they can’t answer your question, tell them they need a warrant and contact your congressman same day.
The land is in a family held corporation. We have no such deals or understandings with the feds.
The fact that the Heinz famiy is associated with this gives me the heebie jeebies.
Any of your kin gotten anything like this before?
BOOKMARKING
Did she take govt money, now you pay the cost.....................
Tell them via certified mail you expect a complete brief including who will be on your property, the dates, all equipment they’ll be bringing, etc.
Set up game cameras at all access points and post the property immediately. Not sure about your state’s laws, but only a game warden can legally enter posted property in mine without a search warrant. If they just show up, report them as trespassers, contact your Rep and Senators, find an attorney and file suit.
It might be a good idea to have somebody younger stay with her, until this is sorted out. I have a bad feeling about this.
And make sure the perimeter is thoroughly posted with “no trespassing” signs.
Take government money for what?
It’s a ‘house place with land’. She get SS every month.
No money for that land has taken place. She pays property taxes on it every year.
Send them a registered letter, return receipt requested. State in no uncertain terms that no permission is granted. Send a copy to the County Sheriff and other local relevant LE, also by registered mail.
Follow both up with phone calls once delivery is established. Tell them ANY trespassing on your private land will be cause for arrest and that you will file charges.
Do not screw around with these people.
L
We’re going to ‘post it’ in the next day or two. It’s already fenced with a gate.
I’m worried they might try to designate your land as some “endangered species habitat”.
Tell them, certified mail, that they do NOT have permission to be on your land, and that you will prosecute trespassing to the full extent of the law. Better yet, invest some money in having your attorney send the notice.
We’re worried about the same thing (fake endangered species crap).
It’s a suburban home, not mcmansion, with about a 10ac ‘front yard’. My parents have lived there over 20 years and never had cows or horses or anything there. It’s bush hogged a couple times a summer.
It’s hinky to me that they waited until AFTER my daddy died to hit up the 80yr old widow with this.
And it was a bully letter. Basically TOLD her they WERE coming. And IF she wanted a day or two notice she could call the local USDA office and they’d ‘try to accomodate her request’.
What a bunch of assholes.
As PP said if your family took crop related money from the USDA there may be no way to stop them.
