“Progressive”. New speak for commie.
I am of the opinion that the electoral college method that “disenfranchises” the fewest would be the district system.
The votes are counted for each congressional district. If no majority winner (50+%) then the top two candidates by vote count have a run off election 30 days later. The electoral vote for that district goes to that winner.
Each state receives 2 electoral votes to represent their senators. The first goes to the candidate that receives the majority of congressional districts, the second goes to the candidate that receives the most votes statewide.
Should there be a tie in either case, the legislature (or gov) awards the electoral vote to one of the top two candidates.
I think the winner of the Super Bowl should be based on most yards rushing.
Abolishing the Electoral College means California, New York an Illinois rules the Nation.
I’m not participating in any debate.
The EC isn’t up for discussion.
If you want to change it, then amend the Constitution, otherwise f*** you.
I cannot believe that when Lyawatha told those folks in Mississippi she wants to abolish the electoral college and they all applauded. Do they not realize if she gets her way the people in Mississippi would not even have to bother to vote as the East Coast and West Coast would decide who won all national elections.
Patriots would still win
Massachusetts Democrats are pushing for national popular vote initiatives. Mass is a lost cause Democrat state anyway but I would love to see the fools in Massachusetts turn their EC votes to a Republican.
The EC protects the country from being ruled by the major cities and it makes cheating much more difficult.
Note: with the new popular vote initiatives now all the rage in Blue states where EC votes are awarded to the popular vote winner, no matter how their state voted. We ALL know if this indeed occurred and the GOPer won the popular vote, but lost the EV
these same Blue states would immediately call special sessions and repeal their “popular vote wins the EV laws” before the electors meet in December... so the Democrat would be elected POTUS.
Mass did this with our U.S. succession law when Teddy Kennedy was dying and we had Mitt Romney as governor. It motivated conservatives to the polls and vote in Scott Brown.
Abolishing the Electoral College means California, New York an Illinois rules the Nation.
Amazingly, Democrats are fine with this. Go figure....
I can’t imagine a Democrat ever losing the popular vote unless there is a 3rd liberal party.
Perfectly stated including the ****.
I’m good with the popular vote as long as people who reside in any of the 50 largest cities can’t vote. That’s fair because it would disenfranchise real people.
Thank you very much!
Sometimes I speak a bit colorfully. I try to keep in in check, but I fail often.
I like the popular vote concept. Let’s make it based on county. You win the popular vote in the county, you get one point. Most points for the state wins the electoral vote for that state.
This way if you win NYC, you don’t necessarily win the state.
I like to point out, that while everyone says, “Hillary won the popular vote”, that Hillary got well under 50% of the vote.
Hillary got 48% of the vote. Look at another way, 52%, a comfortable majority, wanted someone other than Hillary to be president.
Trump got 46%, and assorted 3rd party/independent candidates got about 6% of the vote combined.
Bill Clinton never got over 50% of the vote, yet won comfortable victories in the Electoral Vote.
These liberals didn’t bitch about the Electoral College when Bill Clinton won the presidency with under 50% of the vote each time.
There is great lack of understanding of what must occur for a State’s EC “vote” to be registered after a national election and not discarded.
The actual vote tally of a State must be “recorded and certified” by the SecState of each state. Actual vote count, not “an agreed upon pledging of electors”. The elector vote (which can be split, as done in Maine etc.) must be supported by the actual tallies. Otherwise... the ENTIRE elector vote from that State WILL NOT BE COUNTED.
For Reference— See the Election of Abraham Lincoln. Minus the Southern States.
This entire movement is truly foolish, and may very well be cause for violent response within the States saying they will do this. Period.
