What is the size of your audience, compared to men’s soccer?

Women routinely drew bigger TV audiences than the men’s team, more merchandise sales.

The women's team couldn't beat a U 15 High School boys team. Lost 5-2

Sorry, women's sports is entertaining - esp beach volleyball - but the entertainment value is not in their skills.

I assume if the Men are good enough to make team that gets paid more they’ll be able to right? Women certainly have that opportunity. It’s their skills that are holding them back from making what the men make because they are more than welcome to play on the team if they make the cut.

Now this is funny.

Talk about chutzpah.

I hope that league goes out of business.

But they still wouldn’t learn a lesson from it.

They’d blame ‘The Patriarchy’. Or something.

Might be due to the success of the women's team of the last couple of years, but historically that has not been true:

Soccer attendance

wait a second.

Entertainment is the product. If women generate more viewers and thus more entertainment than men, then they should be paid more. It’s implied in the greater number of viewers that they must possess skills that men don’t have. Even if those skills are cuteness and not physical prowess. Viewers = $.

I actually came on the thread to make the comment that shouldn’t they sue to get equal viewership first. But if the thread comments are true that they already generate more views, then I agree with them, they should get paid more.

Disclaimer: I am not now nor do not expect to ever be a professional soccer player....of any gender real or imagined.

There’s a graph worth showing to the ladies. Capitalism and gross sales is obviously not their strong suit.

Why don’t they play the Men’s team in a best of 7.
Winner gets paid more.

Stupid suit. The womens national team gets good attendance and TV ratings, but not equal to the MNT or even a whiff of the what MLS does.

If women generate more viewers

I agree completely.

My daughter played professional basketball in Europe for 4 years. She was the best player at our Church men's BB weekly games. But she didn't dominate against HS and second tier college players.

There is a lot of hype and patriotism when the women's team advances in the world cup. Everyone wants the US to win, and this generates views. But this is once every 4 years. Who watches women's soccer the rest of the time? NOBODY. Who watches men's soccer?

Yes, pay them if they get the eyes at the world cup.

I used to enjoy watching the US womens soccer team (had daughters in the sport). That ended suddenly when Megan Rapinoe chose to take a knee during our National Anthem.

I do not care about her sexual choices, but to publicly hurt our fine Country tears it.

I suspect that she reluctantly goes along w standing, now, but I have moved on.

If we can get some trans dudes to play womens soccer, we would dominate!

Compulsory attendance at games, mandatory viewing of televised games and requirement to purchase 100 US dollars of official women's soccer merchandise per month for every citizen.

Problem solved.

"Might be due to the success of the women's team of the last couple of years, but historically that has not been true"

Your attendance graph is informative, but not the whole story IMHO. Just looking at stadium capacities lets you know that soccer as a general sport doesn't have as much attendance as college football. :)

Look at List of stadiums by capacity - Wikipedia and you'll see that the largest stadium in the world is in NK for soccer (114,000), but numbers 2-8 after that are college football stadiums in the U.S. (107,000 to 100,000). Most of those stadiums are playing games on the same day (Saturdays when the team is at home) and sold out.

I'd argue that when it comes to pure game attendance numbers, nothing comes close to college football in America.

“women’s sports is entertaining”

If they can command an audience, and that audience is larger than for men’s soccer, then they win in a court of law. Doesn’t matter if a boys U15 squad can wipe the pitch with them. As you said, it’s all about “entertainment”.

How about we just disband the team? Cost = 0. Pay = 0. Problem solved.
