Post-communism has not been kind to a lot of older Russians who thought they had guaranteed pensions and state-provided apartments for the years of work they performed. They miss the good ole' days.
These “good old days” were the bad old days. The money for what you called guaranteed pension never existed. Just in the bad old days no one was allowed to say it publicly. They believe in a lie.
Still, they believe it. I know many older Russians who mourn the passing of the USSR, hate Gorbachev, for allowing it to happen and hate Yeltsin for being a drunken American puppet who handed over state industries to corrupt oligarchs.
Nostalgia is always viewed through rose-colored glasses.
So yeah ... they’re morons believing a lie. So are the muslamic terrorists. The road that calls for entertaining their delusions is a wrong one to take and it is very regrettable that the Russian government has chosen to do just that.
