I get the sarcasm, but the longer barrels of these firearms do increase the pressures and create more lift and twist. When this is the case, I would rather just have a rifle and a rifle round at that point and keep the handgun rounds in handguns that can be holstered.

PSA sells 9mm AR-15 pistols & rifles at a price that would be difficult to beat buying individual parts. You can also buy a 9mm lower and complete upper from PSA and save a little over cost of a complete firearm (less tax).

9mm ARs use recoil rather than gas to cycle the action so you need to have right weight buffer.

I have a PSA 9mm pistol. It’s worked well with no issues. I see it as mostly a range toy - a 556 pistol is much more effective for self defense.

“It won’t be loud, it won’t be “inaccurate” and it will be a fun toy.”

Fun toy I can understand, but I don’t know why I would need one of these if I already have a rife and a sidearm.

I bought an ar pistol, and I’m really glad i did. it’s now my home defense weapon because it handles so well in tight spaces.

Call it a prejudice, but I believe in the .45 ACP.

This isn’t what you are looking for but if i were you, I’d go with a Ruger PC carbine 9mm. It can accept most Ruger and Glock magazines, is about 1/3 the cost of what you pictured and doesn’t have that scary military look.

As do I.

When it comes to feral dogs, most of which are pitbulls, I would never carry anything less. Dogs don’t understand the “BANG” like humans do, and they don’t understand that they should drop when they catch a bullet. They keep charging. Need a bullet that literally severs tendons and muscle tissue and physically shuts them down.

I carry .40 now, but I carried .45 specifically for the reason it was invented : drug-fueled natives who didn’t stop when they were shot.

Had a black bear in our neighborhood a few weeks ago.

Worse, I’ve been seeing Mexicans with obvious military training around town with increasing frequency.

Gee, that looks pretty cool.

I don't know jack about AR's myself, but now that this thread is up to 80+ replies and almost all of it good opinions, may I ax:

In a weapon of this type, why not a 10mm? Just axin'.

A small 9mm pistol for EDC, a full size, maybe, 9mm pistol for home defense along with a Ruger PC 9 carbine and one would be set. I had thought of going that route but as you may be able to tell by my name, I went with .38 Special.

I had similar questions.

Why would a Vet/LEO need to throw this out there, here? Not that there aren’t extremely knowledgeable people here; Surely such a person would at least know fellow members of his/her professional community to ask, not to mention the professional armorers of said profession.

A lot of flexabity there,
Snub nose,
Six inch Magnum and
A Lever Action Winchester.
It’s my favorite round.

Bottom Line Up Front: I want a 9mm "pistol" utilizing the AR platform. Commonly referred to as an AR-9. My question is, should I buy one or should I undertake the task of building one?

Build it. Get one of the AAOrd 80% uppers, already set up for the Glock magazines. My sweetie likes the Glock platform, which doesn't fit my hand well, so she went with a 7" barrel AR on an AAOI lower.

easy build! And the last roiund holdopen is already installed: AAO Glock lower.

You’d be surprised.

I went to a shooting range in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn and you’d’ve thought you were in one of the free states!
