“There also seems to be some gray area as to whether a former twice-elected President could be elected or appointed VP, and then assume the office and finish the term of a dead or resigned President.”
I have pondered that myself.
I believe a governor, or mayor, in Louisiana(?) did that many years ago.
Perhaps one of the Longs?
No. Hillary was supposed to cover up all Obamas skanky dealings.
As it turned out she was unnecessary and they appear to have escaped EVERYTHING...and have lost NOTHING..actually, they have gained personal wealth through it all.
Anyone wonder what lessons they have learned?
Is it they can do almost anything and no one will stop them?
It ain’t over yet.
No it does not.
He needed to have Hillary elected to prevent being convicted of Treason!
No but his husband could
Who were we in a declared war with during his presidency ?
Facts and justice!
The Kenyan/Canadian/Impostor doesn’t need no old Constitution.
How about for EIGHT F**KING YEARS???
Have you ever heard of TERM LIMITS?
Obama can't run again. I guess news of the 22nd Amendment hasn't made it to the janitor's closet. It's only been 60 years.
Washington DC expected Hillary to win easily. Making a big stink about "Russian meddling" would look like an attempt to manipulate the political process, so Obama sat on his hands.
It was up to the DNC to secure its data. Whatever they or the FBI or the CIA did behind the scenes, no way was the White House going to go public.
Isn't that what people are always talking about - some scandal that gives the government a chance to cancel the election?
Obama wasn't going to touch that rail, especially since he expected Clinton to win.
Obama has two perfectly legal and constitutional pathways to return to the Presidency.
The XXII Amendment restricts BEING ELECTED President. It does not change Article II and Amendment XII ELIGIBILITY criteria.
If Obama were elected Speaker of the House, for example, and Trump and Pence were removed, he would become President without being elected.
In a similar way, if a Democratic VP resigned and Obama were appointed to that office and confirmed by Congress, and the President then resigned, Obama would become President again, without election.
The rule is, you can't be ELECTED more than twice (which is incoherent as an Amendment, because Presidential elections do not exist in the Constitution).
But I digress.
There are ways to become President other than being elected, and all of them are available to Obama.
Where in the Constitution is there any reference to "being nominated", or to "running for President"?
Of course he can "run for President", which has no Constitutional existence whatsoever.
What he can't do is be ELECTED President again.
Whether this Amendment limits the Electoral College is unclear.
“There are ways to become President other than being elected”
You could be vice president, then the president dies or whatever, then you’d become president. What are the other ways.
That’s what I’ve always thought. Conservative sites have been claiming Obama apparently believes otherwise. Possibly he thinks he can get Congress to repeal the 22nd Amendment because Democrats have a delusion Obama was a great president.
I don’t think he knowa there aren’t enough blue states to amend the Constitution.
RIGHT. The children of British subjects even if they are not born in the British empire.
